Carissa Sorensen has had a passion for horses since a very young age. She began riding regularly at 8 years old and over time learned the techniques of multiple disciplines.
Carissa's interest in equine behavior grew over the years and led her to Ripon College. There she majored in psychobiology with an emphasis on animal behavior. After graduation, Carissa took a job at Ripon's Cedar Ridge Ranch where she spent a number of years learning even more about equine behavior, teaching riding lessons and day camp, training horses for the ranch's trail string as well as for resale, and learning about the care and management of the horse herds.
In 2006, Carissa got accepted to the John Lyons Certification program. She moved out to Parachute, Colorado, to participate in the program. In October of 2006, Carissa graduated from the program and then returned to Wisconsin. Forever a student of the horse, Carissa has put much time and effort into continuing to improve her horsemanship. She has spent time learning from many great trainers, including John Lyons and Mark Rashid.
In 2007, Carissa met Jackie Curtis and began working out of the Curtis' family farm, Edgewater Farms. A perfect home for Yellow Horse llc, Edgwater farm offers the finest in equine care as well as many learning opportunities for riders and horses alike.
