It seems as if it was Ashlee Owens destiny to be a horse trainer. Ashlee was born and raised in central Virginia where she grew up on a horse farm in Chesterfield, Virginia. She grew up riding hunter, jumpers, western pleasure, then into high school rodeo where she competed in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping, and team roping. Ashlee's first training job was when she was 12 years old for a local horseman that threw her on any and everything whether it was safe or not.... (read more) When people saw her riding these horses that were somewhat "crazy" they started sending her horses of their own for her to work with. From this, Ashlee started finding ways to get what she wanted from a horse using safe and gentle techniques. When she graduated from high school, she knew instead of going to college to get a normal degree, she wanted to further her horse training knowledge and went to Parachute, Colorado and stayed at John Lyons farm where she became a John & Josh Lyons Certified Trainer. After she graduated from the certification program, she ended up moving to Colorado, until the harsh winter hit. Then after realizing Colorado had a little more snow then she could handle, she got offered a training job in Bradenton, Florida where she stayed for a while. Shortly after, home was calling and she made it back to Virginia. Ashlee is now a professional rider and trainer in Amelia, Virginia who has been teaching techniques to horses and riders seeking help since 1998. Using Ashlee Owens Horsemanship builds the fundamental skills necessary to achieve a sound and safe foundation with your horse.
