LENAS BLUE WOLF ("BLUE")
Bay Roan
MARCH 29, 2008
Mecom Blue x Smart and Quick x Smart Little Lena
Blue was trained initially by Russ Westfall and then trained by Sandy Collier and Tina Robinson (then Fry) for about 2-1/2 years. She was said to have great talent. Her dam was never shown, having broken her neck at one day old. Because of her mother, Blue carries one copy of the Herda gene.
She was taken out of training by her past owner and rode her as their personal horse.... (read more) She has been on many trail rides and to Catalina. She is an exceptionally easy keeper. Other than a run-in with another horse when she was very young where she was kicked in her back leg fracturing the sesamoid bn=one, she has had no injuries (she was never lame). She has carried one colt by Nics Black Diamond and had an ET with the same stud for a second colt. First colt was a blue roan and has already been in the money on breakaway roping. Second colt is a top ranch horse. Blue can carry but her uterus has tested as a 2-B and it is wiser to do an ET.
Blue excels at cattle work. She is a hard worker. She is frustrated riding in groups because she is an alpha mare and wants to lead. She has absolutely no buck and is not considered spooky. On the cow or a flag she has a very smooth cutting movement. She has nice lead changes. She is intelligent and enjoys challenges. She has a good stop when in sliders and a good spin.
Through all the work and the past early injury Blue has never been lame. She stands for the farrier and vet, loads very well and is generally very pleasant to be around.
Not a beginners horse. She needs a strong rider with a good hand. Has been used for rodeo queen events, but does not do good with the big crowd and loud noise, as she gets scared. Would not be good for beginner ropers as she's also afraid of the rope swinging. She would be a great ranch reining cow horse, or ranch cutting horse, or even for sorting.
When at home, or at a quiet ranch, Blue is a lovely, sweet mare. She can go bareback in a halter no problem. You can hop on her after months of not being ridden and she's the same horse. Super smooth ride. I've taken her down trails bareback and she does just fine. She's a very curious, people loving mare looking for attention and someone to love on her. She's a fast learner also, so if you wanted to teach her something new she'd catch on quickly.
