Charlie is a 19-year-old, 15.2 hand OTTB gelding. He is gentle and sweet, but past riding experiences cause him to be nervous under saddle, so he needs an experienced rider.

I am selling Charlie by no fault of his own, but due to financial issues. The price is highly negotiable for a good home.

Charlie has excellent ground manners. He respects space, backs well, yields to halter pressure, and knows how to follow his handler’s movements.... (read more) He has good, respectful food manners, and is great with his feet and for blanketing. Charlie has done extensive lunge work. He knows how to walk, trot, canter, turn, and stop on the lunge line. He has experience with basic long reining as well.

Charlie has been ridden in the past and his past owner even did some show jumping. I am not sure of all his previous riding experiences, however he is anxious under saddle. I have done a small amount of riding work with him (10-15 rides). He is sensitive to the aids, but he has trouble with the stop cue. His one-rein stop and understanding of the turning aids are good. Charlie does get rushy and unbalanced when trotting and cantering.
Charlie has never bucked/reared/crow hopped under saddle at all. Though he is rushy, he has never bolted. Additionally, he has never spooked at anything. He is confident and takes everything in stride.

Charlie has always maintained his weight well and does not need anything other than grass hay and a balancer grain. He is currently sound with front shoes to help his Thoroughbred feet. He may have some arthritis, because in the winter he can be slightly cranky and sore in his back legs and neck. Charlie has been dewormed regularly. He last had shots and his teeth floated in October of 2023. I am planning to have these done again this spring. A pre purchase exam is welcome at buyer’s expense.
