“Gizmo” is absolutely one of a kind, strikingly handsome, with that classic quarter horse build. Standing a solid 15H this AQHA registered 2014 gelding has a great set of a feet, heavy bone, and with his thick stature you know he is built to last a lifetime. One characteristic that I love about this guy is how smooth and sturdy he is at all gaits. This is the kind of horse you want to ride in the mountains!... (read more)
Gizmo has a fantastic flatfooted walk down the trail – you will not be kicking and begging him to go! He tends to be the leader in a large group due to his natural forward pace, but will ride in the middle or behind if asked. Gizmo has taken care of an older lady down the trail for a few years now, she frequently took him out on the trail/road by himself and always felt confident doing so. Along with his extensive trail resume, he has participated in a few ranch obstacle clinics, been used around the ranch, and has done a little sorting. You can hop right on and head down the road with a big loop in the reins – and he will confidently take you down whichever trail you desire regardless of the terrain. Birds can fly out of the brush and it does not bother him one bit, he also has seen different wildlife including deer, and he isn’t fazed by traffic or ATVS weaving around him either. He will bravely plow right through water, take you over any fallen logs, navigate over a teeter bridge, and can open/close gates like a champ. He does not get upset if another horse rides up his rear and has never pinned his ears in aggression. This is a very kind gelding with zero mean bone in his body.
In the arena, this horse has a lot of power under the hood. He is light and very responsive in all his aids – due to this we recommend a rider that appreciates a naturally forward type of ride. He collects softly in a snaffle and will go into a nice frame. He does have to be checked to keep speed at the trot and lope – and does best two handed in the trot/lope. I feel with further development this horse could make a really nice western dressage horse or even a barrel/rope horse. He has had a flag carried off him, and will get comfortable with it when done for several consecutive days, however, if you skip that exercise for a month, you will feel him tense up and “flinch” like he has not done it prior. Same thing with dragging a log, grabbing a rain jacket off a fence post, and swinging a rope off him. These are all things that he has done, but sometimes he needs a refresher course on “hey bud, its cool, remember this” – then he licks/chews and remembers and does it just fine. There is no blowup – purely just a flinch. If you approach those 'activities' cautiously, you will get through them successfully without issue. He would thrive under a horseman that is patient and appreciates a forward-thinking type of horse.
He has impeccable ground manners, respects your space, waits for your next cue, stands respectfully in the crossties, loves to be doted/groomed, he is quiet for bathing, loads, hauls to new places like a charm, and even clips! He has a “pick me up” button installed where he will side pass over to the fence to mount too. This guy will stand like a gentleman when you get on – you can fix your stirrups or pant leg and he will just hang out. Stalls and turns out well with others. No stall vices at all.
Gizmo has a set of clean x rays on file, and a recent vetting for your convenience. Gizmo’s vet/health records have been meticulously kept for years. He is UTD on vaccines, dewormer, farrier, coggins, and dental. His owner has not done any maintenance on him and he is a very easy keeper. Only selling to focus on other horses, she feels he can be used and enjoyed by another individual just as much as she has loved him.
