Waylon is a super cute buckskin tobiano Gypsy x Quarter Horse cross gelding with stunning blue eyes, super long mane and tail. He's friendly, sweet, gets along with all horses, and is just lovely to be around on the ground. He ties, loads, bathes, stands to be trimmed, etc.
I bought Waylon as a winter project for me to bring along and finish. In the 10 minute sale video that I saw of him (which I have linked in under website URL, if you can't find it message me), he had what looked like a solid start with a nice walk, trot, lope, stop and spin.... (read more) He had quite a lot of natural athletic ability, especially for a Gypsy cross. He looked great out on the trail, and was started on cows. I purchased him in August and had some nice rides on him but noticed that he had some holes in his foundation, mostly when riding in the arena (such as if your butt slaps in the saddle or there's a jingle of spurs etc, he'd get nervous), then unfortunately had a family emergency which forced him to sit for 6 weeks as I was out of country.
When I got back, I was excited to work with him and get him desensitized to these things and wasn't too worried about his reaction, but unfortunately I underestimated the extent of his holes and how nervous he'd get, and ultimately he ended up getting to where he was reactive and would start to want to bolt. I did have him with a trainer for two weeks in which he got exponentially better every single day. The trainer quite liked him and by the end of the two weeks he was riding him around in just a halter and able to pony other horses off him, but unfortunately I'm not in the place where I can send him to training (I imagine give or take 3 months with this trainer or someone like him would probably fill his holes and you'd have a super cute, friendly, in your pocket Gypsy with the athletic ability to take you in any direction), nor do I unfortunately currently have the time to dedicate to him that he needs. He is consistently getting better with every ride, and he'll be ridden consistently until he's sold.
Here's what I have done and am still continuing to do with him that he is super great at: he is an absolute mountain goat. I mostly trail ride with him now and have gone all over the place. He's not spooky or skittish on the trail at all. He will go up anything or anywhere you point him, and is super sure-footed and handy in any kind of terrain. I have helped gather and push cows on him which he's great at and enjoys and even shows promise as a sorter or team penner, ridden him through water (he LOVES water), over bridges, opened and closed gates etc, and gone on rides alone and with other horses. He's very bold on obstacles. Out on the trail is where his confidence is up most currently. I imagine taking him back to the basics in the arena will help him get his confidence back up to where he'll be a heck of an arena horse. He's got a heck of a stop on him and will drag his butt when he's set up and relaxed for it. He's definitely got the speed if you ask him, and the trainer said that he'd probably really like doing barrel racing/gymkhana, or be a fantastic little ranch horse who is happy to go all day.
He is up to date on the dentist (December 2024), 100% sound with no maintenance, has been trimmed recently (is barefoot all around, with really strong feet), and is ready to find his forever person that will love him and is willing and able to invest the time into him to be the best and most confident version of Waylon that he can be. Feel free to email or call/text me with any questions, I'm happy to send all videos, pictures etc of him that I have and discuss anything about him. He is priced at almost half price of what I paid for him, the holes in his foundation were not accurately described or represented when I bought him and so his price reflects the holes in his foundation that'll need to be worked through.
