Grand Slamm is truly a gem of a horse and the kind that you own only once in your lifetime. This big bodied, lovable gelding is the epitome of why crossbreds have become so popular.... (read more) He is 16.2 1/2hh of a Labrador retriever in a horse’s body, and all wrapped up in a beautiful blue roan package. And that big kind eye is a direct reflection of his character.
This gelding has been in the same program the majority of his life, raised up from a colt, started the right way, and enjoyed by countless different people. He came into my program 5 months ago after sitting out to pasture for about a year and he has been the most reliable, steady Eddy, do anything on anytime kind of horse. Just an absolute Gem. In all the years I have been in the horse business I have never had a horse as reliable and safe in absolutely any situation as him. This is the kind of horse that can sit in your pasture off for months, you can pull in, throw anyone on halter and lead rope bareback and take right down the road into any environment with zero hesitations.
Grand Slamm drives both single and double. Has worked in the fields, driven in town, and given multiple sleigh rides. Under saddle he will impress you by how well trained and supple he is for his size. He is so comfortable to ride, very smooth, and as easy and uncomplicated as they come. He will stay soft, supple and pliable on direct contact or ride around level headed on a slack rein, or no bridle at all. He side passes, pivots, lopes/canters right off on cue, stops with just your seat, and does lateral work. He rides the same in a snaffle, bridle bit, or just a rope halter. He has been to multiple different arenas, public venues, and works great in large crowds. Nothing phases him. He loves the outdoors, trails, open fields, rides down the roads, alone or with groups, and handles any and all kinds of traffic.
And here is the fun part about him. This horse absolutely LOVES being a jungle gym! Literally anything you could think of possibly doing horseback, Grand Slamm will do……..other than winning any races. Lol. This gelding is trained to lay down on command and sit up like a dog. And he will stand like a statue for hours being crawled all over, and played around on. You can throw 3 people up on him bareback, ride him backwards, crawl all over him or under him, and do it all in a high traffic arena, he is always a rock. Can crack bullwhips on him, carry the flag, cover him in a tarp, drag anything behind him, pony colts from him, you name it he will do it like he’s done it his entire life. This is the horse you can pull out for absolutely anyone to enjoy…..beginners, kids, grandparents, large groups, you name it. He never gets sour or tired of any of the shenanigans, he just truly enjoys it. But yet the more experienced riders also enjoy him because the more you ask of him the more he will impress you.
Grand Slamm is very easy to keep, requires no special maintenance of any kind, and is comfortable living outside in a mixed herd or stalls beautifully. He literally gets along with absolutely anyone, and despite his size, he is even gentle around the smallest of ponies or young colts. He is great with dogs, cats, and all other livestock or hobby farm animals. He is UTD on all cares, including dental and coggins. He is great for the vet and even your farrier will be impressed by how easy and well mannered he is to trim or shoe. He is absolutely gentle in every way.
This horse would be the perfect fit for just about anyone……from a beloved family member serving everyone, to a multiple rider program suiting and working for all levels, sizes and abilities of the riders, or the individual looking for their once in a lifetime partner to truly enjoy and do it all with. He is solid, steady, forgiving, tolerant, trustworthy, and has a heart of gold that is willing to do anything.
The registration process has been started and he will come to his new home with IDSHR registration papers. His dam was a percheron X quarter horse cross and his sire is a full percheron. He will also come with his coggins, health certificate, and recent dental form as well as his leather halter with his name plate. This is truly such a special horse that will be sure to put a smile on everyone’s face.
