This sweetheart is looking for a new home doing light riding or companion! Here’s a nice horse for someone on a budget! Would be great as a therapy horse too.
I’ve had “Mickey” At my place for almost a year, he is a 14 year old grade QH gelding, stout built and 15.1-15.2h that was purchased by a client sight unseen out of Georgia for A LOT of money . He was exactly as described- a phenomenal trail horse, safe for anyone..... (read more) except he was also NOT SOUND, due to an old wire fence injury to his back left ankle. There’s scar tissue inside which makes it not as flexible as it should be. We injected the ankle and spent the summer building up strength in his hind end, using him for trails and beginner lessons. His soundness improved a lot during that time, but he was still off at a trot. He will pick up both leads and is very well broke. One hand neckrein, great brakes, and goes where you point him. He has excellent manners and is a very easy keeper. Fat as can be off of just hay and no grain. He lives outside in a mixed herd, respects the fence, and is no trouble at all. If I didn’t have 2 retirees come back from leases this fall I’d keep him here.
He would be perfect to babysit kids or use for recreational trail riding. He probably won’t ever make a show horse due to his shortened stride behind, although all maintenance options were not explored. Some more consistent maintenance, different injections or products, shockwave or being more fit might get him more sound. It’s a shame because he really is a great horse. He loves the attention and enjoys the work. Ears forward and happy to do what is asked. Various videos posted, Read the description under the videos. Lunging videos are from when he had 4 shoes on and 2 weeks after ankle injection. Riding videos are 6 months later, barefoot and not being used, pulled him from the field for the video.
