Prince is a 14 year old, Chestnut, QHX, gelding standing at roughly 15.2 hands. He is the classic in your pocket, quirky gelding type and quickly became a barn favorite with his mischievous and interactive personality.
Prince goes WTC and has had experience jumping up to about 2’6” - although he still is green over fences he enjoys the job and is quickly figuring it all out!... (read more) He loves to hit the trails, is down for a good gallop in the field, a leisurely walk, or a nice swim in the river! He's gone over logs, bridges, tarps, streams and puddles. He is willing to trail ride alone but does prefer the company of others when possible. He has been off property and trailers well both alone or with others. We've taken him to many off property trail rides, a show (pre- elementary trial), to an indoor for schooling and to clinics. He earned 5th place in his first ever event and was being ridden by a jr. rider. Prince has been ridden English, western and bareback and would make a fabulous all-arounder type guy. However, we do feel he is loving the English lifestyle and would do best in primarily an English based home. Prince stands nicely on the cross ties and loves a good groom! He can get a little nervous but stands willingly for the farrier, vet, dentist and Chiro (especially if you sneak a couple emotional support treats!)
Prince’s History-
Prince has been in our program for just under a year. He was pulled from the Lebanon valley auction in February 2024 and came to us straight out of quarantine. We have little history on Prince before the auction but was told he was a family horse, mainly doing trails, and had worked cattle (I have never tried him with cows). He was ridden on and off but had a thirty day refresher before going to auction but was recommended to have more time with a trainer to get him back to 100%.
When Prince arrived at our facility he was extremely shut down and nervous. He was very anxious to get the answer right and panicked if he thought he was wrong. I spent a lot of time doing groundwork and building back his trust in people as it became quite obvious that at some point in his life, he was handled by some very hard hands. He soon opened up and has since become one of the most social and interactive guy’s at the barn! He is sweet as can be and tries his heart out for his people!
Although he has never reacted badly, the western equipment seems to make him more nervous (he can get forward, dancy and becomes very sensitive when he's feeling anxious.) so I took him back to the basics and introduced him to the English disciples instead. He seemed to really enjoy it and I quickly found out he really likes to jump. I think he could excel as an eventing or jumper prospect! I have spent time building his strength and teaching him how to properly carry himself and go on an English contact (although he still has a tendency to listen to Western cues.) Prince does best with a rider that can offer him guidance to find himself properly under saddle but he is a willing partner who tries his hardest to please! In my experience he's always been very brave off property. He can be a bit snorty for the first few minutes, but quickly settles in. He's a pretty solid guy and doesn't spook easily. Prince is a chestnut and will have his occasional spicy moments but He's always channeled it to what his rider can handle and doesn't mean any harm! He does best in a consistent program.
Due to occasionally still getting nervous and sometimes having a little playfulness to him we feel he'd do best with an intermediate or above. That being said, we have had advanced beginners on him and he's always done amazing! We could also see him both loving and excelling in a lesson program and would be happy to consider them on a case-by-case basis! Prince is the same horse for every rider and is pretty consistent on how he goes as long as he's in a consistent work schedule. If he's had some time off he can be a little spicy for the first few rides but quickly gets back into the groove!
We will require someone with previous horse experience and/or working with a trainer! As well as, references, pictures of his new digs, and a right of first refusal/ no auction contract.
Prince is up to date on his farrier, vet, dental, dewormer, and recently had a Chiropractic adjustment as well (he felt great and needed very little work!)
Prince requires front shoes and individual turn out. He is currently being stalled at night but we feel he could also do well with a run in setup too!
Prince is currently on a gut and joint supplement and we feel he would do best continuing on them.
If you've made it this far and feel like Prince is for you, let me tell you, he's got a heart of gold, will try his dang hardest and I promise you'll fall in love with him, we all have! - please reach out!
