Coco was a rescue pony we brought in April 2024 as a summer project for my daughter to bring along. The original hope was that she might be something that could adapt to a lesson program, but this pony would be happier as a one person/family pony with more individual attention.
Coco has been worked over obstacles, lunged, bridled, saddled, ground driven, and everything to set her up for life as a riding pony. She is great to stand tied and loads in the trailer easily.... (read more) She has a smooth way of traveling with a flat, level stride. Most of the work that she has done was done by or with the assistance of a seven year old, so she has been handled a fair amount by kids and likes their shorter stature.
Coco's work was interrupted when we found out she was very pregnant! Right before she was ready to start being backed, something looked suspicious, and upon examination by a veterinarian, we discovered she had been bred. She did foal a beautiful colt without issue, but if someone wanted to put her back to work, they should revisit a refresher groundwork course with her.
Coco can be hard to catch in larger spaces and can be a little shy and high headed. She also needs continued work around her hind feet. We have picked them up, but it takes a slow approach and isn't kid proof yet. Before Coco was rescued, her initial life might have been a little rough, as she can be shy until she gets to know you. She will need help learning how to let down and relax her neck and not be suspicious.
Coco is looking for a home and may be a good option as a companion, or if someone can take time with her, to bring her along as a riding or driving pony. She is smart and sensible and not quick or reactive, but she does need some trust building and resiliency. She has been handled by kids, and while she may be shy, she is tolerant of them, especially if they have cookies to help her warm up to them.
