We purchased Rose in the winter of 2017. In the fall of 2018 she foaled a healthy gypsy cross filly. She was a great mom foaling easily and taking very good care of her baby. The next spring, I restarted Rose and took her to a horsemanship clinic in Illinois. Since then she has spent the summers being hauled all over camping and even team penning. My youngest son also used her for 4h meetings. He isn't interested in showing so she has not been to any shows.... (read more)
On the trails she is quiet and does a great job taking care of her rider. The only fall came from a too large log that she hopped over from a stand still. The campgrounds we have stayed at vary from rustic with tons of narrow trails and two tracks that we loped down, to a rodeo campground filled with loud noises, traffic and people. Every place we camp has had some form of water crossing and she now crosses or goes in without hesitation.
Rose is a very easy keeper in every sense of the word. We rarely grain her but do make sure she is provided with the minerals she needs. She has spent most of her summers with us turned out to pasture without having any issues with the grass. Her feet and general soundness has been awesome. Only needing normal maintenance trims. She is very healthy in general only needing her yearly vaccinations, coggins, and deworming. We also give everyone sand clear a few times a year to be safe.
Rose is ridden primarily with a 5 inch snaffle, but I have also ridden her with a shanked bit to see how she tolerates it. She was fine and wasn't concerned at all.
I think Rose would be best suited for a kid or small adult that is moving on from their first slow poke old horse and wants something that will move out willingly when asked. I ride her every once in a while and started her. She handles an adults weight very well.
