Spirit is a 15.1h, 8-year-old, buckskin, Grade Quarter horse gelding. He was green-broke and used by his previous owners to ranch, and sort and doctor cattle in the feed yard. I was told he has good cow sense.
I bought him from an online auction in Kansas last year, sight unseen, planning on him becoming a pleasure horse to ride after work. As a first-time horse owner, I decided to send him to the trainer to get some more miles on him after he arrived.... (read more) He spent 2 months at the trainer last winter and progressed nicely. During that time, I rode him up steep trails, around wildlife, dogs, 4-wheelers, and through water, and he was great. He can pick up a lope from a walk, although he is stronger on one lead, he will move off of leg pressure and has started learning to neck rein. he can open and close gates, and will ride around equipment.
Once I got him home, my life got crazy, and I discovered that he is the type of guy who needs an everyday job. He does best with a confident, experienced rider, who appreciates his good work ethic. For about the last four months, he has been on a ranch working and getting ready to find a new home. When in a regular riding schedule, he is awesome, but I don’t have time to ride him that often, so I am looking for a ranch type home for him.
He has great feet and does not need shoes. He gets along well with other horses, fine in the field or in a stall. He will drop his head for the halter and bridle and is good around dogs. He has been ridden in and out of the arena and is fine.
I have tons of videos and pictures available upon request.
