Kate is a sweet mare estimated to be between 15-17 years old (checked via veterinarian). She came into our program emaciated and with EPM. She has been treated for her EPM and has gained significant weight since then. Kate is a very gentle mare who is smart as a whip.
She has been excellent to work with. Kate has had immense groundwork done with her and is a very soft horse. She could use some more work with a solid routine and good desensitization, but she is coming along nicely.... (read more) She let me pick up all four feet and trim them, though she could still use some work with it.
She ties well, but could use some more time with desensitizing while ties. She does stand very patiently on the pole and stays still as long as you need. Kate stands to be brushed and saddled, but does not care for fly spray at the moment.
Kate was one of the best first rides we’ve put on a horse. She was very gentle and had absolutely zero buck. She never tucked her tail, she only got nervous a few times and moved quickly to the side. She never bolted with me and she gave to the bit very nicely. She trotted and loped out well once she was used to me. She settled in nicely and acted like an old trail horse after a bit of riding. I think with more miles, she will be a great mare in no time. We will continue to ride her, but her price will increase, so get her now!
You will get her full vet records. She is UTD on vaccines, coggins, teeth, etc. She is also microchipped with a temp scan chip. If you ever have to take a temperature on her, you just have to have a reader and run it over the chip and it will give you a highly accurate temperature reading.
Come check this mare out! She needs a good home for Christmas.
Nexus Equine
We believe there are times when horses find themselves in at-risk situations and need outside support and resources. Quite often, these are younger healthier horses who have a great potential for a second career or new chapter in their lives. Nexus provides assessment and training to every horse in our adoption program. As a result, all horses have a specific individually designed program that promotes the highest potential of each horse.... (read more)
The final step in our adoption process is matching the right person with the right horse, creating positive outcomes for the equine community. Horses need resources and support when they are no longer appropriate for current discipline or environment. Nexus provides those option either by putting horses in our adoption and transport programs OR by providing assistance to horse owners with veterinary and farrier care so that horses can remain at home.
Nexus collaborates and partners with other equine organizations, horse and breed associations, national animal welfare organizations and horse enthusiasts on a local and national level to help horses more efficiently and effectively. Our team works hard to help Oklahoma horses—check out recent news coverage, press releases, and social media posts about our efforts in the News Center.
