For those that are interested in a horse that won't make you fight gravity too much (she's a stout 14hh) and want a smooth traveling, economical model, meet Ladybug. She's a billy goat on the trails and has the potential to make a lovely little mover for local showing.
She's easy through terrain and water and doesn't care about her position in a group. She had been camping and taken on an intro endurance ride around the age of 4-5 with good remarks.... (read more) She has improved since then with her strength and maturity and might be a fun option for competitive trail or low level endurance.
Ladybug is a level mover and fabulously smooth. She wants to transition easily in the ring. She needs some work with being soft in her face and over her back to travel properly on a more consistent basis, but she has the starting point to understand it and is darling when she goes into frame. She can be a little lazy to the aids and is not overly responsive or sensitive (not terrible by any means, and some people may prefer something that feels more stable and not too responsive underneath them).
She is easy to handle on the ground and is healthy and barefoot. She may benefit from shoes on rocky terrain. She gets a very minor fly allergy on her stomach in the summer, just a little more chapped than some other horses where the flies sit. No vices, easy to turn out with other horses or stall. Easy to catch, tie and trailer.
She can be a little on the "mare-ish" side, she doesn't love horses creeping into her space on trail and will give them the stink face. She can make a stinky face when saddling as well. We just try to reason with her and carry on. She would prefer a rider that is assertive. She doesn't love someone telling her what to do if their body doesn't reflect that they really believe it should be done.
I could see Ladybug being a great trail horse for someone, 4-H horse, a horse that just goes into a program for someone to learn with that can't afford something fancy or even as an adorable little hunter! She's got a lot of good qualities that families look for. Simplicity, movement, and a grounded disposition included.
