We are closing 2024 out with an exceptionally good minded, calm, quiet, and easy/laid back kind of gelding. Just in time to make it under your tree this Holiday season ---- Meet “Joey” the PERFECT gentleman! Joey is the epitome of a safe and sound equine partner. He is a gorgeous rich bay color stamped with the cutest little star on his sweet forehead. He is the perfect height measuring right at 14.... (read more) 3 hands. Aging right between 7-9 years of age (three separate vet/dentist opinions). This snuggly teddy bear, I mean grade quarter horse, has more whoa then go and has been such a pleasure to have in the barn these past few months.
Where are my older lady clients at?! You know who you are. I see you. I hear you. You’ve been looking for a while. Well, I have the gelding for you. If you want to poke down the trail – play with the obstacles (bridge, teeter totter, step overs, etc) – Joey is going to take care of you. He is SO quiet and calm – never looks to spook. He has proven to us how reliable he is on and off property. Jump on him bareback and grab the package from the UPS driver – no problem! He is traffic safe – ridden in and around traffic. He amazed us with how calm he remained even when the train blared by him just 20 feet away! He has ridden in different covered arenas too! His confidence, ease of handle, and excellent seasoning make picking him a no brainer when we need to take our young/ green horses out on the trail. He will bravely lead the way and show them how to walk thru a creek and will even pony a yearling alongside him. Ride him up front, in the middle, or poke along in the back. He also rides great alone or with a group of friends. He will maneuver a gate with excellence. He has been exposed to dogs, flags, banners, cattle, tractors, ATVS, and gunfire! In fact, he has been in professional mounted shooting training earlier this year, and even won a few checks his first time out competing. This gelding could absolutely do fox hunting, search/rescue, sheriff posse, mounted patrol job as well!
But hold on, maybe you like to dance a bit too. Is western dressage/classical dressage more of your style? Well pull that dressage saddle out – Joey is a wonderful and willing partner in the arena! He is soft mouthed and goes into the bridle effortlessly. He will school beautifully in a snaffle and has a pretty trot and a balanced canter. He has a green flying lead change as well and well started lateral movements, and will pivot/side pass.
Whether you want to load up and go on a fun drama-free weekend trail ride, dabble in natural horsemanship(teach him fun tricks), ride him through the Christmas Parade, participate in the local obstacle challenge clinic, show him at your local ranch riding series for funsies, sort some cows, or even dabble a bit in some lower level western/dressage – this guy will do it all. He certainly isn’t in a hurry to go anywhere – and he prefers it that way! He isn’t going to take you down the center line at the World show, spin a hole in the ground at the futurity, turn and burn around the barrels, nor slide fifteen feet. So if a slower paced, “I sort of want to be un-athletic, but I can be athletic when asked”, enjoyable, leisurely hacks are in your repertoire – Joey is the horse for you! He is a bit on the lazier side – if you want to trot and canter you have to ask for it (not a horse with his own motor). Once trotting he holds a lovely steady pace, you have to be a bit firmer at the canter to keep the impulsion otherwise he will break gait and slow down. We do not lunge this guy – simply pull from the paddock/stall and go. He has NEVER offered to hump up/buck/rear/bolt/spook with us and we have let this guy sit in 40-degree temps! I would not hesitate having one of my 5 year old nephews handle him – he is gentle and very patient. Easy to catch, stalls like a gentleman (corner pooper) stands for mounting, easy for vet/farrier, loads/unloads, travels easy. Turns out well with others (low on totem poll). Zero vices. Consistent happy go lucky kind of attitude. Never grumpy or ear pinny, quiet in the crossties (no paw/fidget), your typical uncomplicated gelding. Currently up at night, and out during the day. Wears a size 74/75 blanket.
Taking applications now for a new mommy, Joey, requests lots of cookies, scratches, adventurous trail rides, fun easy arena hacks, and lots of love! I truly ADORE this little gelding, and feel that he is going to fit such a variety of clients. Joey is extremely sound, can go barefoot but does currently have front shoes on, no maintenance, easy keeper, just a great guy all the way around. Has a small scar on left hind pastern, likely from getting into a fence as a baby, cosmetic only. We just had his teeth done, current on all other care. Joey has a current vet statement on file for soundness and sells with a full set of recent x rays, ensuring his soundness and readiness for years to come with his new family. Joey is private treaty, inquire today to make Joey yours!
