Legend is the ultimate family/kids ranch horse. If you are looking for SAFE, you have found him! These type of horses are hard to find and don’t come up for sale very often, and it is a hard decision to let him go. Legend has taken care of my two boys, ages 5 and 8, for over a year and we have hauled him everywhere under the sun for them to ride. He is sound, sane, safe, dependable and kind. Legend has taught several other kids in our family how to ride, rope, run barrels and poles, and has taken care of even the most inexperienced riders all over the ranch.... (read more) But he’s more than just a kid horse! He will adjust his skills to the level of his rider, and while he always takes care of the little ones he will step it up for a more experienced rider. A friend of the family who is 74 has used him quite a bit to work cattle on his ranch as well, and he would be an excellent horse for a weekend rancher who wanted something safe to ride and work cows on. My 5 year old rode him up at a local rodeo all summer, running barrels during the performance and taking him all over the rodeo grounds by himself. There isn’t one bad thing I can say about Legend, but my boys have both moved up to faster rodeo horses and he is too good to go to waste in our pasture. He’s the type of horse you can throw anyone up on and not worry that they will get hurt. Legend came from a ranch in Montana, where he had been for most of his life. He is 16 years old and 15.1hh, stout and big boned with no health or soundness issues. He has been used for all phases of ranch work, including dragging calves, doctoring cattle out in the pasture, and sorting pairs. You can ride him every day or let him sit for months and then just go catch him up in the pasture and hop on without having to worry he will buck you off. Legend is nicely broke, will neck rein or direct rein, sidepass, and work off your leg. He has an extremely smooth trot you could sit to all day long, and a nice lope. He rides quietly on a loose rein, and stops easily. Legend will ride bareback, double, and just with a halter. He has no bad habits and has never offered to buck, rear, bite, kick or take off. His ground manners are excellent and he is 100% safe for anyone to be around. Legend is quiet but responsive, with more whoa than go but not so lazy that you have to kick him to death to get him to go. He is easy to catch in any size pasture, and will usually meet you at the gate looking for attention. He gets along with any horse you put him with, and doesn’t have a mean or aggressive bone in his body. Legend is sure footed and will go up, over or through anything you point him at, and will cross water or go through tall brush without an issue. We haven’t found anything that scares him or spooks him, he is pretty much unflappable. Legend will ride out alone as well as with a group, will happily lead or follow, and has been ridden down the road and in traffic and isn’t bothered by it. He is good for the shoer, stands quietly tied, loads and hauls well, and doesn’t require any maintenance. We can hold him until Christmas if needed! He is UTD on everything.
