Short and sweet isn’t my strong suit when it comes to a good gelding that has as many valuable qualities as Tejas does.... (read more) He is in his prime and is as good of a versatile gelding as I believe you will find. He has all the good in the world going for him. His color of course is lovely, but if you’ll look beyond to admire his strong build, his bone structure, his movement, his deep dark eye and his personality you will no doubt see you’ve found one just a little different than all the rest.
See, Tejas is big and stout making him an ideal candidate for so many jobs all of which he is absolutely broke enough to do and capable of doing however, he is quiet minded and exceedingly gentle also making him the recipe for the perfect combination. If you prefer a bigger horse you’ll love him. If you prefer a smaller horse he stands to be mounted from a block and you’ll still love him.
Tejas has been ridden and enjoyed by riders aged 12 yrs old and up. He has given joy rides to some younger of course, but always accompanied by a helping hand due to his size. He is gentle enough for anyone and has proven his nature time and time again.
Tejas is a trail riders unicorn. I’ll share with you why…no matter what level of trail riding you’re doing or where you’re doing it he has you covered. Whether you’re going for a leisurely ride on the weekends, going for an overnight camping trip in the backcountry or navigating a tricky river crossing he is there for YOU.
Tejas will ride out alone or with a group and his location within the group is insignificant to him. Water crossings, traffic, dogs, tricky terrain etc all of these things are things he is well accustomed to dealing with and handles well. Though he is in my opinion as great of a trail partner as you could ask for he is also very well trained with a lovely handle making him always enjoyable to ride.
Tejas is broke in the bridle and will ride softly and collected. He works well off of leg cues and is soft and supple to take for a cruise in the arena doing pattern work. He catches both leads with ease and cruises around low headed and smooth. He is likely one of the smoothest big horses we’ve ridden. He stops well and pivots correctly on his hindquarters. He is a horse that could excel as your favorite trail partner as well as at weekend ranch horse shows.
Tejas is an easy keeper and has no special requirements. He is easy to catch, ties and trailers quietly, gets along in a herd setting and is always well mannered. We do have a current set of x-rays available if you wish to view them. He sells completely sound. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
