“Bella” has the potential to go a lot of different directions with a little refinement. Could be well-suited to endurance or western gaming. Rides western or English, direct reins and neck reins, and goes easily in a snaffle.... (read more) W/t/c, easy to pick up both leads, learning lateral work and has started trotting poles to prep for jumping. Has done gymkhana and extensive trail rides with her previous owner. Goes up and down hills and crosses water. No buck or rear, and she has never bolted with me. She does have a bit of a spook here and there, but she settles quickly, especially if you put her right back to work. Knows one-rein stop.
Easy to handle on the ground. Roundpens well. Does not bite or kick, not mareish or girthy. Picks up all 4 feet and stands for the vet/farrier. Uncomplicated to tack up. Bella loves being groomed and doted on and is a very personable horse. I tell people she would probably sit in my lap if she could fit! Straight ties or cross ties, but being tied for long periods is not her favorite activity. She doesn’t pull back but she will paw and fidget if left unattended. We have been working to increase her patience.
Tested seven panel negative for genetic disease through UC Davis. Can live in a stall or in a pasture with friends. Respects fencing. In a herd setting she is on the dominant side and may not be an ideal herd mate for an eldery horse or small pony. Bella is a proven broodmare. She has foaled once in the past without complications and was a good mom.
Good feet and has never needed maintenance to stay sound. No known history of colic or soundness issues.
Bella’s CONS: Bella is a forward-thinking mare, so she’s not a candidate for a child’s first horse, or a babysitter, or a husband horse. She is better suited to a more confident rider—adult or older teen— who has experience. While she does have good brakes and doesn’t run through the bridle, she’s a little on the hotter side and can get rushy. She does come right back with a change of direction, a circle, or a correct half-halt but I don’t foresee her ever relaxing with a beginner consistently hanging on her mouth. She’s also not a horse that can sit for a months and come back to riding without prep. She’s not bombproof (like I said earlier she spooks occasionally) but she’s fairly quick to come back to her rider so long as they don’t shut down. Bella also gets distracted if her buddy walks by the arena while she’s being ridden and loses focus/calls out. We have been working on improving all of the above.
