Chiquita Piquita aka Cheeky is a 6yo OTTB mare standing about 15.1h (estimated)
She had 21 starts on the track, winning about 12k. Her last race was 8/8/2024 at the Tillamook Fair. She was sold after that to a lady who restarted her under a western saddle and had her for roughly a month. She was then sold again and sat with another gal for about 2 months doing nothing.... (read more) I then bought her from that gal and have had her for just about 3 weeks. Since then she has been seen by the farrier, which she did absolutely excellent for. She has had 2 rides under saddle since being with me. Both rides were calm and very sensible. She has no issues with a saddle or cinching, I think most of her restarting work will be based on the bridle and getting her to understand how the whole bit system works. She ties, bathes, loads, hauls, tacks up, and bits up perfectly. No fuss at all. Shes been fine around flags above her head level, worked with them on the ground though so haven’t carried any while on her. Only quirk is she is a bit buddy sour I’ve noticed. I knew about this when buying her but feel the old owners made it a bit more extreme than what I’ve seen. She’s stalled next to and turned out with my 4 other mares. While stalled, she’ll pace back and forth a bit but not to intensely, she can occasionally be a bit antsy at the tie racks without her friends but really that’s all the attitude I’ve seen from it. Beyond that she’s an easy keeper, should be a simple restart project, and she’s fast with a high speed index of 71 when she was on the track. I’ll likely end up putting front shoes on her if she’s here during my next farrier appt. as she has the soft feet and will hobble on the rocks. Other than that no lameness issues or injuries that I’m aware of from the past.
I don’t need to sell her but have another horse I’d like to bring in and she’s the one that I’d be willing to let go out of my herd.
She will continue to be worked and more rides put on her until sold. Will work on better photos and some videos for serious buyers.
