Monterey is out of a mare named NQH My Shadow who earned over $19k in her career and is by none other than the legend himself Playgun.
Monterey is eligible for the Breeders Invitational, The Bonanza, NCHA Super Stakes, NRCHA Cow Horse Incentive, and the Riata Buckle.
We bought this exceptional gelding as a two yr old. He started in a cutting program and then went on in a cow horse program and has been used heavily as a ranch horse. Monterey is an old soul, the kind of horse that can stand up in a stall on full feed for over a month and walk out just as broke and gentle as the last time you rode him! But this isn’t your typical numb plug either. Monterey has all feel and ride you could ever need. He is a monster stopper with fancy spins, beautiful lead departures and flawless circles. He’s a great fence horse so far and boxes a cow well. I believe he’s a horse someone could be super competitive on in the ALL of the VRH events! Monterey has been steer stopped on and has had lots of cattle pen roped on him too. He has also been used for everything on the ranch. Weaning, doctoring, sorting, shipping, dragging calves the whole bit. He’s also spent ample time in the feed yard. This is a well rounded gelding that can do any job and do it with a huge amount of style!
Outside Monterey is a dream ride even outside, he crosses water and rough terrain with ease. He will ride out alone or with a group with no problems, and he is quiet even if there is un expected wildlife or traffic. Another of my favorite qualities about Monterey is he is so smooth, long trot, jog, lope, walk you name it he just glides across the ground. Monterey is light and responsive in all maneuvers and truly a blast to ride for any caliber of rider. This is a horse I’d trust with ANYONE. Our children frequently grab this horse to go for a ride and he takes the best care of them. There’s not a single mean bone in his body he is pure and kind and never has a bad day. Our daughter Saylor has carried the flag on this horse for the grand entry and has even rode him English. This is truly a once in a lifetime horse for any performance home or family home. He checks every box you can think of and there isn’t a single thing you could not like about him! He just that special presence in and out of the arena that you just don’t see very often.
