I have a registered Dun QH stud colt. He originated from North Dakota. I bought him from a girl in North branch. He was essentially unhandled when I got him. He was at least food motivated so I was able to gentle him and slowly work with him in getting the halter on him. He essentially had nothing done to him. He had pretty ugly looking feet but he has been on a 6 week trim schedule.

It took me about a month to get the halter on him.... (read more) Once I did, he’s been absolutely amazing to work with. Very quiet and very curious. I’ve had a saddle on him 3 times. He leads very well. He’s honestly a really good boy. He is bred for sorting cows and he seemed to have a knack for it already. I had a 3 month old stud colt in the same pen with him and he did good with him. However, he started to chase him and was like sorting him the one day along the fence. He’s been penned separately ever since.

I wanted to keep him and turn him into a barrel horse. I think he would excel at either barrel racing or cow sorting. However, I want to keep him a stud and after further examination with my vet, we determined he would not be a good stud candidate. He would be a much better gelding. He was 6 panel tested and he is carrier for GBED. We also discovered that his one testicle descended but the other one is still stuck up high. Therefore, he would most likely shoot blanks a good portion of the time as well. I’m very bummed because I like this horse. He’s very smart and quiet. He doesn’t have to go by any means. If I keep him I’ll just keep training him until someone is interested. He’s going to make one heck of a horse. But sadly he isn’t going to fit into my original breeding plans anymore. Which is too bad, he is a very nice looking horse. I love his coloring and I was hoping to pass his coloring down to his offspring. But I can’t justify risking the possibility of passing down the GBED trait and the inability to breed to his next offspring. So he would be best as a gelding.

His coggins were done in February. I dewormed him this summer and I will be deworming him again for the fall before he goes. He is up to date on his vaccines as well.
