Ive owned Ace for three years now. I would say im still on the beginners side when it comes to riding, and Ace needs someone who can lead him confidently.
Very easy going, he doesn't bite, kick or rear. Western or English or whatever the heck kind of saddle you want to put on him, he can do. He knows walk/trot/canter and ive touched on collection in the trot with him and he was really getting the hang of it. He also knows the very basics of neck reining, but I normally ride english so he's probably rusty there.... (read more)
I havent had any health problems from him since ive had him, knock on wood of course. He's completely barefoot and only needs a trim every six weeks. Hes had two absesses about a year and a half ago, but he was in a muddy pasture during the winter at the time so i think it was from that. no other issues with his feet since.
Currently i feed him one scoop a day of pro-elite senior food with nothing extra added. He's SO easy to keep up to weight, and does great in the winter. In the three years ive had him ive only blanketed him twice, he keeps himself warm really well.
he's in your pocket, loves froot loops, rolling in sand, and his donkey friend named zipper. He knows the smile command by either saying it or holding your pointer finger in the air. He also knows how to fist pump with his right knee.
Hes the kind that you need to take advantage of his good days, and let him be on his off days. Personally, i think ace would enjoy being a trail horse. But before i got him he was in training to be an eventer. however, i think he is more than capable of achieving any goal you put in front of him.
