Red may be getting older but if you tell him that he won't believe you. His body and mind most resemble a horse half his age and the vet that cared for him for years before we got him gave him a personal reference of both being an awesome mount AND not having any known medical issues or maintenance needs. He has a slight sway in his back - that's literally the only way that you can tell he's over 12, well, that and his paperwork - he is a registered AQHA.... (read more)
His main job has been as a cattle sorting horse, which he will school you on. He's a great teacher, but moves fast enough in whichever direction that he wouldn't be best for a beginner. He has a booty to die for and powerful muscles. He likes a good warm up though so make sure you give him the time to unfold before asking for lateral work or deep collection. He only needs a light touch and I swear he knows what you are thinking before you even ask for it. A bit of leg is enough. I believe he is easily still in his prime. In his younger years I would have paid in the 30k+ range for a horse like this. He's that good. Price is lower to get him to a good home and to acknowledge that he deserves to be somewhere that keeps him happy.
This AQHA gelding has good bloodlines, is well built, and has a great attitude.
He love to slurp down cold water from the hose on a hot day and loves a good bubble bath. I easily cleaned his sheath on my own without sedation. He stands for the farrier and is well behaved trailering and on the cross ties. He is affectionate and kind and really likes attention. He'll do best with someone who both cares for their horses and wants something that can perform well in the sorting pen. I'm not sure what other skills he has because I haven't looked for them, but he's athletic so it wouldn't surprise me that there might be more untapped. I have ridden him around on the buckle of the reins bareback.
Why does he need a new home? Between some medical things I have going on and how much I've needed to travel for work I don't have the time to devote to him. He is such a cool guy - he deserves to have some more fun and is up for it if you are!
