Additional Comments
Missy is a 15 year old kid friendly couch on 4 legs. She will go anywhere with a powerful motor, not fast but she has no quit. She has roped in the branding pen and on pasture, but that is not her thing. If you know what you're doing, she will do it, otherwise she would rather go sort cows. If you are travelling up and down the trails, chase cows, go to the mountains, and want a horse that absolutely loves kids, Missy is your girl. She has been one of our main horses this summer to move cows and take the kids for trail rides.... (read more) She has been to the mountains, packed and rode a few years ago. She knows hobbles, has been high-lined and has had horses tail tied to her. She will cross water, bottomless swamps without second thought and drag whoever is tied to her with her. She is a no bull**** kind of mare, that loves to be loved on. Our kids love on her all day long, lope her on pasture and hop on bareback to take her for a spin. They are 5 and 7, and Missy has given them such a boost in confidence. The worst Missy does is take them to the thickest patch of grass and eat. We've had every kind of rider on her, from people who haven't rode in 10 years to more experienced riders to kids. She isn't a mindless boring horse, she has character, loves babies (we had to separate her from the baby goats, as she was trying to steal them) and is a genuine sweet heart. She is good with her feet. She is barefoot at the moment, but has had shoes in the past.
For the bad: she has pulled back when we first got her 3 years ago. We have worked on it extensively and she hasn't pulled back in 2 years. It's just something to keep in mind.
We tried breeding her last year, the stud ended up being aggressive and she came out of it with a scar on her shoulder. It is purely cosmetic.
She sometimes thinks she is more agile than she is and has pinched a nerve twice in the last 6 years to where she started favoring her hind right. The vet couldn't find anything that was wrong, the equine massage therapist worked on her once, released the nerve and within 2 days she was good. With the odd massage this is an easy to maintain issue.
Missy is an absolute sweetheart for the whole family. She has a sweet nature, will love you for forever if you bring a carrot. She is an easy keeper, crazy comfortable, no rear, buck or bolt but she is not a dead head. She rides out nicely in a group, although she is on the slower side, if you go on your own she will argue with you once and then go down the trail happily.
Rocking T Farms
We're a regenerative farm focusing on soil healthy. While our main focus is pastured pork, grass-fed beef, grass-fed lamb and pasture raised chickens, Horses are a part of our every day work during the summer months and go through refreshers and training in the fall and winter so they are ready for the upcoming season.
