Buster is a grade crossbred gelding, approximately 14 years old. He’s a beautiful bay with four black stockings and no white markings. He stands about 15.1 hands and is a stocky build - we believe he is some sort of draft cross (possibly Morgan/Draft?). He’s an easy keeper and stays pudgy off of air, and has been barefoot since we got him (with not a single issue).
Buster is up for sale because we believe he would do best with one person that he can bond with.... (read more) He doesn’t do anything naughty in lessons - he’s just not quite what we are looking for for our program. Buster rides English or western, bitless or with a bit. He has a solid walk/trot/canter and picks up both leads, but he can get a bit strong at the canter. Nothing unmanageable- just a bit strong (which could change with regular work). He does not have a lead change and (though this could also change as we continue to ride him). We’ve ridden him in the indoor arena and outdoor arena, and he is not a spooky horse. If he’s feeling fresh, he can thro an occasional “happy hop” - but it’s nothing malicious or mean. Buster has been ridden in the fields, but we do recommend an experienced rider if in an open field - he tends to be strong in an open area. He stands crosstied or single tied - though he can be your typical mouthy gelding if you stand at his face.
Buster is a great size for a teenager looking for a step-up horse, or an adult that wants something fun & safe. He has beautiful movement - I could see him playing around at local schooling shows and doing well, and I could also see him enjoying local gaming fun shows! He’s a very brave horse, and I could see him being someone’s best friend on the trails once he connects with them and has some miles under his belt. We don’t recommend Buster for beginners - he does have opinions, and because of his size, can be intimidating. We’ve used him in intermediate and above lessons.
He lives with our gelding herd, but he can get nose-to-nose with our mares and has never acted up around them. He may do well in the same paddock as mares - we’ve just never had him in with them. Buster seems to be middle of the herd - he doesn’t bully anyone nor does he get bullied. He does live outside 24/7, but he can stall with no issues. (We bring him in during inclement weather).
