“Baron” is a 15.1hh, 13yr old, QH gelding. This boy right here is guaranteed to steal your heart, he has a puppy dog personality, complimented by a silly, curious, make you laugh type of attitude!... (read more) Baron has a very special place in my heart, as I have used him all summer for fun western events. If you are looking for a fun western horse, that likes kids, and can dabble in the english world as well, continue reading!!
In the barn, he has no bad habits. He whinnies every time you walk past his stall, and he comes running to you in the pasture. This boy is full of personality. He stands on the cross ties to be groomed, bathed, tacked, etc. He is very gentle on the ground and can certainly take a joke. He is safe with kids and beginners to work around, and doesn’t mind dogs being rowdy around his feet. He will follow you around like a dog, and is a total lover boy.
On the trails, he will lead, follow, go out alone and in groups. He is brave, and willing. He will cross water, logs, bridges, rocks, and loves to swim in the lake. He is adventurous, and likes to explore. He is safe with bikes, traffic, deer, etc. I would not say is a lazy plug along type, he moves out nicely and would be an awesome camping partner, or hunt horse!
Baron has been a “personal horse” of mine all summer. I have hauled him to many events. He has such a cool, okay let’s go do this, type of brain. I can use him 5 days in a row or let him sit for a week, he doesn’t mind either way. I have been using him for team penning, and ranch sorting, along with playing around and learning more about western cues and such. He hops right on the trailer every time, alone or with company. He is a good boy off of property, and doesn’t mind the rodeo commotion.
Baron is a fun, and agile, cow horse. He will cut a cow, stop a cow, chase a cow, rope and drag a cow, you name it, he LOVES it. I am a beginner in the cow world, and I have learned a lot with him. He is quick when needed, but will also be slower with moving a cow when asked. He is responsive to your hands, legs, seat and voice commands, but in an amateur friendly way.
In the ring, Baron will walk, jog, trot, lope, and canter. He pivots, side passes, stops, backs, moves laterally off of your leg, knows his leads, and neck reins. I would put him between whoa and go, he will travel around on the buckle, but moves out when asked. He is not lazy, but he is not hot nor forward, he is pretty much right where you would want him, in order to enjoy chasing cows, and schooling on the flat. He would be beautiful in ranch trail classes, or even dressage! I have ridden Baron many times with just a neck rope!
Baron will ride western, english, and bareback. His gaits are smooth and rather uphill. His lope is amazing, you could rock to it all day long. I have played around with jumping, and he jumps very cute! He is green over fences, but honest and tries his little heart out to please you. This boy is very intelligent and wants to learn. He has a great work ethic.
Baron could care less about kids climbing all over him. I think he genuinely enjoys it. He likes children, and will take care of them on his back. He walks slowwww and easy, as if he knows that he has littles up there.
Baron is a baby sitter in the pasture, he can go out with anyone. He is the first at the gate in the morning with a whinnie. He is good for the vet and farrier, and requires no maintenance or supplements. He is an easy keeper, with a simple diet. I had fronts on him until I started trail riding him more, he is a little tender on rocky trails, so I keep four shoes on him now. Here is a super fun, all around horse, that is willing to do anything that you ask. If I knew that I was going to be able to compete through the winter, he would be staying right here. This horse really is forgiving, he has dealt with me learning how to work cows, off balance, heavy hands, and he just seems to help me no matter what. However, it is time for my boy to go on and make someone else happy. Whether he becomes a family horse, continues in the cow world, shows in ranch, reining, western dressage, becomes a camping/ trail partner, I know that he will enjoy it all. Baron is a special boy, and deserves the best. Please feel free to reach out for any further information! Shipping can be arranged anywhere!
