Meet Cody Wyoming (that’s what I call him) he’s AMHA registered high Foundation Morgan Gelding that stands at 15 hands tall.... (read more) He Rides & Drives. He Trots & Gaits. So for any Morgan enthusiast out there I did the math on his lineage and he’s 99.8% foundation almost 100% that’s a rare find anymore. So he looks like a traditional Morgan should with a nice medium size build stout enough to pull or carry a heavier load and with the stamina to do it.
He trots and gaits and to elaborate... he mainly trots as that is what his rider has preferred him to do for most of his life, but if you keep him pulled in at a slow easy pace he will do a nice little foxtrot that’s smooth to sit to. He has the ability to do a racking gait but only when he wants to as he’s not really had the practice at it to be taught a cue for it. So keep him slower and he’ll do an easy to sit to fox trot ask him to move out and he’ll do an easy to post to trot. He also has a nice lope that’s very nice to sit to. He is a Morgan and if you know your Morgans he has a faster walk and likes to cover ground. He is NOT hot, but he’s not a deadhead either his speeds are medium paced. He has endurance and can take the miles the longest ride he’s been on was a 20 mile loop and he handled it without any issues.
And Cody is a horse with a full history so no unknowns with this guy. He started life out in Iowa on a ranch where he was broke out to both ride and drive. Then he decided to move over here to the east coast where he made a living at primarily giving carriage rides to people, however he also was used as a trail horse here and there. Then since last year he’s been primarily used as a trail horse with only a few carriage rides here and there. So this guy has plenty of experience he’s a been there and done that type of horse he knows his job and he does it.
He has good ground manners stands still to hitch/unhitch, mounting, getting on/off the cart, tacking, grooming, and excellent for the Ferrier. He gets along out in the pasture more on the low-middle end of the pecking order. He’s pretty much low man, but doesn’t let himself get picked on either. Easy keeper NO maintenance. Stays a good weight on just grass/hay/oats. NO bad habits or vices.
He’s traffic safe doesn’t care about the big trucks, Harleys, or any regular road traffic. He’s also fine with quads or atvs the only traffic he does not like would be zippy dirt bikes the really loud squeally ones. Those ones he will look at, but any other regular traffic he is fine with it. He’s very controllable in the cart stands good for me to hitch and get on and only walks off once I ask. He stands still patiently at the stop signs and stop lights. He drives in just a snaffle bit and has a good back up. Knows the words whoa, walk on, trot, and back.
For the trails he is fine with wildlife (deer, turkey, heron, etc.) he will cross bridges, creeks, rivers, logs, etc. Nothing phases him easily. He will leave home alone just fine. Doesn’t matter if he’s front or back riding with other horses. I have used him to pony young horses and he does great ponying other horses. He does know his leg cues to move his shoulders or hindquarters he also knows how to side pass but is a little rusty at that one as we rarely have a need for it.
He’s up to date on shots, wormings, and Ferrier. He just had his teeth floated this year and he does have a current Coggins as well as a pre purchase vet exam. So he’s all set and ready to go onto his next job. He’s a fun safe horse for someone that knows horses. Just call if you have any questions or if you want to come see him. If you are too far away and need transport I do know a couple transporters so that’s not an issue at all. our phone number
