I’m considering letting go of Gunner, my gentle and friendly Pinto Jack. He’s 13 years old, just shy of 14 hands, and has plenty of productive years ahead. Gunner is easygoing, quiet, and loves people, making him a pleasure to have around.
**Highlights:**
- **Stands Quietly:** Gunner stands well for saddling, harnessing, bridling, brushing, hoof trimming, and vet visits.... (read more)
- **Respectful and Easy to Manage:** He free ranges but stays close. Gunner hobbles and picket lines well, respects boundaries, and can even be fenced in with twine without challenging it.
- **Trailer Loading:** He loads and trailers easily.
- **Groundwork:** I’ve done some groundwork with him, and while he needs more, he’s willing and does his best to understand what’s asked of him.
- **Great Manners:** Gunner halters and leads well, and he loves to see people coming. You won’t need to catch him; he’ll come right to you.
- **Calm Under Saddle:** I’ve ridden him a few times in a one-acre field, and he shows no signs of bucking, rearing, kicking, biting, pawing, or any other issues. He will make a fantastic saddle donkey with a bit more work.
- **Proven Stud:** Gunner has sired an Appaloosa Quarter Horse mule with a calm disposition, responsive to commands, and willing to work (see picture). He loves the mares, so please be mindful if you don’t want him to breed.
- **Potential Deal:** I’m hoping to get another mule out of him. We have a 15-month-old Haflinger filly we’d like to breed him to, which could be part of the deal.
Gunner has been a great friend, and it’s difficult to let him go, but due to space constraints and other priorities, it’s time to find him a new home. He has excellent manners, a great temperament, and will be a wonderful addition to the right home.
