Buster is a grade but DNA confirmed 100% Standardbred, 9 year old, gelding, and stands 14.1 hands tall. He is built lean - not a big, thick horse - he is slender but built very nicely - extremely athletic and quick on his feet. LOVES jumping. He is suitable for a confident intermediate rider and up. With consistent riding he would be fine for a confident beginner. He is UTD on everything - vaccines, worming, teeth, negative coggins, and feet. Easy keeper.... (read more) Easy to worm.
He is trail and traffic safe - he does still jump occasionally (a little) or walk sideways away from something but nothing dangerous.
Ties, loads, unloads, stands to be saddled, and bathed. Great feet - they are thick soled and tough - he does not need shoes unless you’re taking him to the mountains. He does need work with holding his back feet up for farrier. He will kick out some. He’s NOT mean. He’s nervous.
I would still consider him green but he is started very nicely - he is learning to neck rein and take leg cues, and he is doing great with it - very fast learner. Never offered to buck, rear, kick, or bite. He will be hard to catch until he trusts you. We got him where he will come to feed. He is very soft in the face but tolerates a heavy handed rider; however, he is much calmer and moves prettier with a soft handed rider. Walk, trot, lope, run - he is very fast but will not lope off if he is unsure of his surroundings. He is sound; although, he does have 2 scares on the lower part of his legs - one on the front right and one on the back right.
He is easy to keep contained- not one that tries to break out, even if the other horses get out he will most likely still be in the field. Will ride alone or in a group - if you are with a group then he will be reluctant to leave everybody but he will do it - not barn sour at all. Crosses anything and everything on the trails.
Great with weanling foals and not a dominant horse. He likes to keep to himself but doesn’t mind if other horses join him.
Jackson, AL. Price is negotiable. Will trade for a grandma safe horse. It’s okay if it’s older (under 18 years). This horse is going to be GREAT. He is one of our go-to horses but he has sat up for 7 months now. I still guarantee he will not buck or rear with you. But he’ll need some wet saddle pads by a more experienced rider for a week or two.
I have lots of pictures and videos. Some of a 12 year old riding him back in January. I know everything about this horse’s personality and quirks. Ask anything you want. Come try him. If you’re confident and know how to ride then you can ride him.
