Eleanor is a 9 year old, 14 hand Molly mule. I don’t think there are enough good things to say about her. She is very stocky and stout and has no issues carrying larger adults all day long out on the trails or in the mountains. Safe, quiet, and gentle are three great adjectives for her.... (read more) The next best one is gorgeous! When it comes to riding, she is a joy! She walks, jogs, and lopes. All three gaits are smooth and comfortable to ride. She is extremely happy to ride on a full drape. If you put her at a pace, she will stay there. She is a bit of a more “whoa than go” type of mule. She is not lazy and she does move forward easily, but she is happiest going and easier paces. Eleanor neck reins nicely and is light in the mouth. She has a nice stop on her, backs up, and side passes. You can open and close gaits on her. We like to use her as a little utility mule. We have dragged and moved bunk feeders with her, carried equipment around and ponied kids on ponies behind her. She is the ideal mule to gather a herd horses and mules on. She will cut back and forth and turn them back if needed. When the herd gets excited and gallops off, she stays quiet and will walk or jog behind them and not get excited. She does the same when gathering cattle. She isn’t easily excited. We’ve had the whole family on her with no issues. She stands well for the farrier. She doesn’t mind her mane being clipped, she stands quietly to tack and untack, loads and unloads easily, and overall has nice ground manners. Eleanor has been on lots of camping trips and does well tied out on the high line overnight. She is sure footed and confident on the trails. She will ride in a britchen or crupper. She also rides just as well in a halter and lead rope or bosal as she does with a bridle on. Eleanor is just an overall really nice mule that we love to have around and ride.
