My girl is simply amazing! Porsche has kept a novice rider like myself safe on many miles of trails and a couple of pack adventures. With multiple foot surgeries and caring for an elderly parent out of state, my riding opportunities have changed. Sweet P is too good of a mule to become a pasture ornament and likes being out in the woods. Despite her age, she is sound and has alot of good life in her as mules are much hardier than horses. Sweet P requires no senior feed or supplements (just hay), is not lame or under any vet care.... (read more) Easy keeper, easy to catch even on acres of green pasture, stands well for farrier, needs no shoes, she is not barn sour and neutral in pecking order/calm in stalls. She packs, high-lines and hobbles. Porsche has a colorful past from participating at Bishop Mule Days to Montana outfitting mule string. I had no clue what I was doing starting this mule journey in my 50s. She always took good care of me crossing water and high bridges, positions her body to open gates without cues, packing 7 miles into CO wilderness for 2 weeks, and a magical trip to Mt Rushmore trail riding, and more. She uses the softest bit, neck reigns and leg cues, and responsive. Sweet P will get up and go when asked; however, her preferred speed is on the slower side (and is mine as well as I prefer a nice casual, easy ride). She may not fit your kind of riding. Unfortunately she learned to downgrade her once impressive skills to my confusing novice leg/ rein cues. A short amount of time will bring back her conditioning and skill levels to match yours. You can get on her months later and expect the same safe ride. She is not an arena mule - it bores her - although we’ve done group play days and she does well. She likes the trails. This post is the hardest thing for me to pursue, but I need to do the right thing by her. There is still time to bond and ride while the weather is good. Come ride her and see if mutually you both are a good match. She will only go to the right home, the right person, that I hope is looking for a magnificent mule to build confidence, feel safe on the trails, and bring many joyful moments that comes with the special bonding of a trusted barn buddy. Serious caretakers only with a kind hand and good accommodations for my girl.
