Gumbo is an excellent prospect looking for his perfect person or people to call his own! Gumbo has shown great potential since being here, certainly one of the smartest colts we've gotten to mess with! He is drop dead gorgeous and he's only going to get more handsome as he grows up. Gumbo has been learning how to flex, has been through our obstacle course and is a gentleman to lead around. If he needs to learn something new he is very patient and willing to listen.... He will need good consistency on handling his feet and being fly sprayed. He will yield to pressure on his fore and hidquarters as well. He loves to be groomed and especially loves his tail head to be scratched! He is a very mature young horse already and has a very kind eye that you can recognize from a mile away. Though we don't know his lineage for certain, we estimate him to mature in the 14-15 hand range.
Gumbo is easy to catch out in the pasture and leads nicely for you. We can't wait to see what the future holds for this kid! With the right teacher and a good foundation this horse will make an amazing partner for you. Everyone here wishes they could just put this sweet old soul in their pocket and take him home! Gumbo has a clean bill of health and is ready to hit the road and head to his new home.
Come meet Gumbo this September 7th at the OKC animal shelter for this year's clear the shelter event! You can meet Gumbo and other adoptable horses ready for their new homes!
Nexus Equine
We believe there are times when horses find themselves in at-risk situations and need outside support and resources. As a result, all horses have a specific individually designed program that promotes the highest potential of each horse.... (read more)
The final step in our adoption process is matching the right person with the right horse, creating positive outcomes for the equine community. Horses need resources and support when they are no longer appropriate for current discipline or environment. Nexus provides those option either by putting horses in our adoption and transport programs OR by providing assistance to horse owners with veterinary and farrier care so that horses can remain at home.
Nexus collaborates and partners with other equine organizations, horse and breed associations, national animal welfare organizations and horse enthusiasts on a local and national level to help horses more efficiently and effectively. Our team works hard to help Oklahoma horses—check out recent news coverage, press releases, and social media posts about our efforts in the News Center.
