2018 AQHA Palomino Gelding, standing a solid 15 hands. Is a true all around packer type. His dad won some in Reining, and this gelding is lovely, a very nice mover. Will jog or trot out, had a lovely lope or canter, nice transitions. Has done lessons with peanuts and I was told he was great. I do feel like any horse giving kids or any sort of beginners lessons also needs a quality tune up ride every now and then, I think he is a horse that would benefit from that if he is being used to teach on.... (read more) Is in the middle of a tune up currently he hasn’t been working very hard lately. He will also pop over xrails, he is supposed to go down the trail just fine and enjoy them. He has been shown in ranch riding the past year and did well. Good to fly spray, moved a little at first when I hosed him but he didn’t do anything wrong, was good to haul in the trailer.
Now for what I know and have noticed for the short time we’ve had him. He can be a little pushy on the ground and will probably need reminders. He wants to be sweet and in your space, I can’t stand that so I am constantly trying to get him out. I was told he is great with mares in the pasture (saw him in with one) in with a gelding or stud he is a jerk to them. Haven’t noticed any cribbing, weaving, chewing, pawing or any of that. He has clean legs, nice feet (currently barefoot), and is sound but he is going to be one that may need some maintenance, this is most likely dependent on how much he is being used and how hard. I really liked him, and bought him knowing he might require some maintenance. I checked with my vet prior to purchasing him to get some security knowing it’s not a big deal. He has a spur on his hock, his hocks are in the process of fusing and he has been sound. If you are using him hard he might seem a little stiff at first, but once he moves around he really loosens up. To maintain him in steady work you can put him on Equioxx, he may or may not need it, and another option is getting his hocks injected if needed. However, my vet let us know it’s not a big deal, if he doesn’t seem to be in pain and his current X-rays from the end of June this year look perfectly fine, then he should be plenty serviceable. I wanted to make sure you knew all of this, truly doesn’t seem to bother him. As far as shippers I can’t think of anyone specifically heading East anytime soon but if you like him I can most definitely send you some reputable shippers who may be!
