Ranch Versatility, Trail Riding, Cattle Work
“Maizey” is a been there done that, jack of all trades! She has done everything from Equestrian Team shows, working cattle on a farm, and trail riding through the NC mountains all with a foundation in reining! She is super easy to have around the farm, settles in to new places like she has been there many years. Super sweet personality too with a solid work ethic - the more you ask of her, she never fails to step up to the ask.... (read more) She would be perfect for someone looking for a solid horse to do all the things!
Under saddle, she is smooth to ride with a comfortable steady jog and a really fun floaty extended trot. She rides with or without spurs, although you will get more precision using them. Her foundation is in reining and she lets you know it with a solid stop and beautiful turns! Her spooky meter is very low/none, nothing much bothers her whether you see a deer out on the trails or if you are working the cattle on the farm. She will trail ride out alone but most of her trail miles are out with a group - she will lead or follow and go through water. On the ground, she has a solid foundation in the showmanship, she knows all the maneuvers - she could use continued practice on the set up to make it a little quicker. If you are looking to do some local open shows and want to try all the classes, she has the basic skill set to do well (and honestly she is kind of fun and good at the trail obstacles!)
She is easy to catch, lead, and stands in cross ties nicely to be groomed/bathed. She does not have experience with clipping. She does stand super well for the farrier (currently shod on all 4 with plain steel shoes, normally they would come off when not riding over winter). Loads and unloads nicely from the trailer and hauls by herself or with others just fine. No maintenance. Not on regumate. No vices. Goes out well with others, is on the top side of the pecking order. She does well stalled, or a stall with a run option works too! Best rider fit for Maizey is someone with a basic level of confidence as she can tend to be a little on the lazy/fat side if she thinks she can be. This girl enjoys to work and have something to do, so if you are looking for a fancy ranch horse with all the fun buttons, lets chat! Shes a fun one!
