16yo - ottb (had since he was 2 straight off track)
He’s done it all. Been there done that kind of horse. More woah than go but will go with a stick/spur. Was our star lesson horse for beginners on their very first ride through intermediate/advanced. He’s packed the tiniest of tots and even their grandmothers. Comfortable, smooth tiny trot, easy canter and taught his fair share of beginner canter lessons.... (read more) Brought a number of kids to their first show (rated and schooling). He’s literally done everything. hunters, jumpers, eventing, gymkhana, mounted shooting, trail ride (alone and in group), mounted patrol for police department, ranch horse, cow sorting, side saddle, therapeutic riding (ground and mounted), goofy kid teen things, etc. loves to swim and the water. At shows he can be a little more forward than usual but a good lunge to get the jollies out did wonders. Perfect gentleman all day afterwards and he takes care of his rider. Easy to catch, clip, bathe, for the farrier and vet. Self loads but will paw. Barefoot and very easy keeper (gets fat off air)
He’s happier and much rather be outside than in a stall but can be stalled (he’ll just paw during dinner time and when impatient- if stalled can make him a bit more forward to ride). He did have kissing spine but was surgically corrected with amazing results. No limitation. He’s comfortable jumping the 2’6” with no maintenance but may need some form of maintenance if going above that. He does have ugly cannon bones from his pawing when he was much younger and can have a bit of a hitch at the trot when first warming up in cold weather. He does work out of it when pushed forward.
I adore this horse and really want the best fit and 5 star homes only may apply. If he ever needs a home I’ll take him back no questions asked. Ideally I’d love to find him a small scrappy do-all-the-things kid or a small petite adult just to keep it light on his back. He’s more than earned his step down career and deserves a one on one person to love on him. Would really prefer him not to go to a huge lesson barn. But would consider a very small program or therapeutic depending on the situation.
