Additional Comments
Roxie is approximately 11-12 yrs old and is cross trained in both English and Western although she hasn't been in a western saddle since I got her in 2019.
I had genetic testing done on her and other than having the lethal white gene as the majority of splash do, she is negative for the other traits.
Roxie is a diva who would love to live a life of leisure where she can call the shots while under saddle. Her preference is a nice, forward walk where she can lower her head but she does love a good sitting trot and when you ask her to canter she lets out a snort or two.... (read more)
As a horse with a lot of quarter horse in her she is NOT suitable to be used as a jumper as her hind end cannot catch up to the front and that means if she has to reach (which she wishes she could) with the front she will hit a pole/poles or the fence with her hind end. She has a great time going over a line or two of poles so even though it's better for her to stay on the ground, she is careful.
She would do well in a lesson program for beginners or advanced riders. If you want to evaluate a rider, she is a great resource as she may or may not bend left/right the first time you ask, or may lean more on one of the rider's legs than the other. On her worst day you might need to put her on the lunge line to burn off extra energy (or just to play as she enjoys getting it out) and on her best, well, that's the other days. The key is consistency and not giving her too much time off. She thrives with a regular program, too much time off and she will start thinking she's the boss as most alpha mares do.
I can't say she does or does not act "mareish" only because the behaviors she exhibits are the same that the geldings do when they're being tacked up. She will swish her tail if you ask her to do something she doesn't want under saddle but listens to her rider.
she loves to go out in a field with others and as the alpha, doesn't like it if her friends are taken away but she forgives and forgets the next time she goes out.
**Lastly** Based upon the genetic testing she is purposely bred. She has a great inbreeding coefficient which translates to a planned mating with desirable traits. While I do not know at this time who her sire is, there is a close relative in the database so it's only a matter of time before her pedigree will be revealed. I will gladly share the genetics report if interested.
