Possum is the first one to meet you at the gate. He’s super easy to catch and easier yet to love. He’s an easy keeper and holds muscle well. Anyone could pick up his feet and he stands perfectly for the farrier. He loads/unloads easy peasy. He’s not pushy and will ground tie all day outside of the roundpen. He is a little bit of a peanut roller, but he’s proven it’ll be quick to work him out of that. We have not taken him into any arenas, but he used to be a half decent barrel horse in his younger years.... (read more) He’ll ride in a halter, hackamore or bit, but seems to be more agreeable in a kind bit. If you want a horse to hop on bareback in a halter and go on a trail ride alone, Possum is your guy. He prefers to lead in a group and not follow. The only thing that brings this amazing horse down is an old injury. He had a bone chip in one of his front knees but had surgery before we ever came across him. He’s been out galloping in fields with a rider, gone on long rides and has never come up lame, so I’d say it doesn't limit him very much. He might not be suited to higher intensity activities like frequent jumping or competitive barrel racing, but with his foundation he could go just about any direction. He has been ridden english a few times. He’s got more woah than go in an arena or roundpen. He’ll test his rider, but it’s nothing an intermediate rider couldn’t handle. I have only ever seen this horse spook once. No bite/buck/kick/rear. UTD on worming.
