Meet Captain Hook ?
14 year old Belgian gelding
Stands about 19 hands
Hook was purchased for the purpose of being a dude horse at a trail riding operation. To be completely transparent, Hook is a one person horse and would benefit from having a routine with a person to enjoy him. I feel that Hook was in the wrong hands for a majority of his life and that has led to him being an insecure mount at times. When he develops a bond with a rider, he is a fantastic horse.... (read more) I've been riding him as my guide horse for 3 seasons now and do love this horse but he would be so much happier as someone's personal horse as he will never be suitable for guests to ride here at the dude operation.
The pros
He stands well for the farrier
Loads great
Can be ridden at a walk, trot, and lope safely
Neck reins and moves off leg
Stands like a rock when being mounted
Takes his bit like a gentlemen
Crosses water and will take any terrain you ask him to go over
Ponies other horses
No problems with seeing deer, elk, turkey (or really any animal) on the trail
The cons
Hook can get nervous and insecure during new experiences which requires a confident and calm rider. He does best with kindness over anything and responds great to positive reinforcement.
I've led hundreds of rides with this horse and have helped riders off of his back. Hook is a kind horse that has never offered to rear, kick, or buck. He is just a bit spooky. Hook will continue being my guide horse until the right person comes along. He will make someone a great trail horse. You are welcome to come try him at the stables and take him for a ride through the property. Message me with any questions you may have!
