Alpha Whiskey - 16 and a half hand 5yo TB gelding by Diving Rod. Whiskey wrapped up his racing career with 19 starts and 67k in earnings. He went for 135k as a 2yo.
I love him. He is so well mannered on the ground and in the tack. He had his first ride here this morning and couldn't have been more of a gentleman. He makes an adorable package, is easy to soften, already looking for the contact and is so kind. He sticks right in the middle between 16-16.... (read more) 1 and is quite solid so he feels comfortable to a bigger rider (like me). Whiskey has a super balanced canter and is the typical race horse who is very accustomed to being on the left lead. We got the right lead over a pole, twice actually. That is the sort of thing that sorts itself out with patience and training. His trot work is nicely balanced and bendy both ways. I was really happy that he was starting to look for the contact and hint at stretching at the end of the ride. My mom wasn't out yet so no video, but he is perfect at the mounting block.
Whiskey does all the things on the ground that we want. He is standing nicely on crossties for grooming, bathing, clippers, mane pulling, etc. He is excellent to load and ship (Billy picked him up). He is generally and easy going type, loves him some peppermints lol and is as cute as they come. Whiskey has no injuries, clean straight legs and good feet (all photographed in his flickr album through my site). I was told Whiskey has no vices. When he got here I saw him crib for about 30 seconds in his stall but now several days have gone by and I've not seen him do it again so I'm not sure what to make of that. Maybe the mildest cribber possible?

Whiskey had his second post track ride out in my big scary field today. I was in a little bit of a time crunch with the farrier coming so he didn't even get an introduction from the ground before I asked him to take a spin around with me. I sit on a lot a lot of fresh off the track horses and one like him that are so willing to try new things are priceless. I really pushed my luck and asked him to pop over a few logs, which he did like a champion. Whiskey is an ideal match for some one wanting a generally easy, straightforward restart. He would be so cute in the hunters or eventing.

I really love this horse. He is just easy and so darn sweet. He has the most give it a go attitude and comes back around smarter every time. He started figuring out cantering
his approach and was super honest and brave about it. I would never expect a green horse like him to get every distance perfect but you can see how he never gets upset and just keep working to figure it out. Whiskey is the type of horse most people would love to have. He's gorgeous, kind, sound and clean.

It is pretty extraordinary how bravely Whiskey just marched around his first xc field trip. He is the super duper quiet, kind type of horse who I feel very comfortable saying a good riding junior would have a blast with. He's absolutely what the ammy looking for a safe, fun horse to develop should be buying. Whisky is cool because he is always happy to jump the jump but he doesn't get too excited about it. Not a single spook or hesitation from Whiskey today. He didn't get at all nervous in a new place and was happy to start the ride by hacking around on a loose rein checking everything out. He reminds me so much of a fabulous like minded horse I had over the winter who we called Buttons. Just such a solid citizen. Whiskey is excellent about loading and hauling, was quiet standing at the trailer and is generally such a sweetheart to do all the things with.
