Please read the full ad. I love this horse and I am willing to keep her until I find a good fit.
Her Jockey Club name is "Born to Fight" but her personality is the opposite. She is extremely responsive, quick and willing to please. I have been riding her for 10 years now and she has never once thrown me off or tried to hurt me. She neck reins, moves off heel pressure, crosses water, trail rides, stands for the farrier, trailers, easy to catch, blankets in the winter, solo rides....... (read more) I don't know anything about dressage but I feel that she would be an amazing candidate. She collects nicely is extremely responsive to pressure. Because of this she can move from a walk to a canter with one squeeze and I recommend intermediate - advanced rider. She is not a lazy horse and she is always tuned into your signals. She isn't touchy - like she doesn't spook when there is a loose strap on the saddle but if she thinks your heel is asking her to go faster, she won't hesitate. She also prefers women over men.
History: She was on the track as a 4 year old and had 2 wins but she is small for a thoroughbred and not fast enough for a career on the track so she was sold and I re-trained her and have been riding her on and off for many years. She has no lameness issues. She does have allergies. Her eyes get runny, especially in the wind. I have to clean them with eye wash on most days. I have consulted 5 different vets through the years and they have recommended various steroids or anti-inflammatory pastes. I have settled on a daily paste that seems to help in allergy season. Her poor eyes do get red. She still sees fine but I know it can be uncomfortable for her.
Pedigree: I do not own her papers but she does have a lip tattoo that is attached to her records. She is the great-granddaughter of Seattle Slew. You can look her up on the pedigree website.
Quirks: She definitely has some quirks like all horses. If she isn't ridden regularly, she gets buddy-sour. It's hard to her to pick up the correct lead changes while cantering. She can be totally chill on most rides and then occasionally she prances for the whole ride. It's really pretty to watch but not relaxing. When she gets nervous, she backs up instead of bolting. She sometimes chomps the bit when nervous. She isn't spooky bit sometimes refuses to get near strange objects. She likes to rub her head on you. She likes to do yoga stretches when tied. LOL. I have never before seen a horse do the downward dog pose like she can do.
As you can probably tell, I love this mare. It's really hard for me to think of selling her but she definitely needs more attention and riding than I able to give in this season of life. She is too advanced for my beginner husband and baby boy to start out on. If you think that she sounds like the horse you are looking for, please contact me. I'd love to have a conversation. I'm located near Denver, Colorado.
