Looking for your next riding partner? Let me introduce you to Dax (Goldys Windsor), a 13-year-old AQHA-registered sorrel gelding who stands at 14.2 hands. He’s been with me for a few years now, and if you’re a confident, intermediate rider, I think you’ll love what Dax has to offer.
Dax started his career on a ranch, so he’s had a solid foundation in a variety of tasks. Over the last three years, he’s been my reliable western riding horse, and I’ve worked with him consistently both in indoor and outdoor arenas.... (read more) He’s the kind of horse that settles back into work with no fuss, even after a break. I’ve been riding him 3 to 4 times a week, and his ground manners are exceptional—just an all-around well-behaved partner.
Dax has recently been introduced to liberty training and he has taken to it naturally, which makes me think he could really thrive in that discipline if you’re into it. There are some examples of this in one of the vidoes.
On top of that, a young barrel racer has started working with him on barrels, and Dax is showing real promise there too. He’s enthusiastic about the challenge and seems to love the speed, but he’s always in control. We’re putting together some videos of him in action, so those will be available soon if you’re curious about his progress.
Dax’s personality makes him such a joy to work with. He’s reliable and friendly, with a laid-back temperament. He’s forward-moving when you ask but responds beautifully to light cues, and he’s soft in the mouth. No bucking, bolting, or rearing—he’s a safe, dependable ride. And on the ground, he’s just as easy to handle. He’s respectful of your space, stands calmly for the farrier and equine dentist, and is a breeze to work with. See videos for ground work, gaits and liberty training.
Health-wise, Dax is in top shape. He’s barefoot and up-to-date on all his routine care—farrier visits, vaccinations, worming, sheath cleaning, and dental work. There are no maintenance issues to worry about, so he’s ready for whatever you have in mind.
If you’re into western dressage or working equitation, Dax’s calm and responsive nature would make him a great fit. And for barrel racing, he’s just starting out but already showing a lot of potential. He’d be perfect for someone ready to take things up a notch with a faster horse while still keeping things safe and fun.
One thing to note—he hasn’t had much experience with camping, trail riding, or mountain terrain yet. But given how adaptable he is, I’m confident he could pick it up quickly with the right rider.
So why am I selling Dax? Honestly, it’s a tough decision. I’ve had an injury that’s keeping me from riding, and while I’d love to keep him, I want to make sure he goes to someone who can give him the attention and time he deserves. He’s located here in Lethbridge, ready to meet his new owner.
If Dax sounds like the kind of horse you’ve been looking for, let’s chat! I’m happy to answer any questions and help you get to know him better.
