Let me formally introduce all of you to one of the easiest to ride and versatile geldings you can possibly find on the market today. “Smarty”, as he’s affectionately called, will fit a wide range of riders. Whether you want to go have fun at ranch horse shows, kick it with friends out on the trails, or just enjoy a fun ride in the arena THIS gelding will do the deal.... (read more)
In the arena, Smarty has been shown in most all ranch horse classes for the last eight years. He has a wonderful cadence in all gaits with smooth transitions, turns around easily and correctly, and has a simple change. He is buttery soft in your hands and stays in tune to your seat and legs making him extremely easy to get along with. On trail courses, bridges, logs, gates, and drags are all a breeze to him and if he questions what’s in front of him he always looks to you for guidance. Further proving his versatility, Smarty has also been patterned on the barrels and is quite good at them but he was never hauled competitively. Outside of the arena, Smarty has been on both group and solo trail rides throughout North Texas and into Oklahoma. He does well going out alone and has no issues leaving the group if you’d like to go do some solo exploring with him. If there is a body of water nearby you’d like to take a dip in, take Smarty with you! This guy absolutely loves cooling off in the water; whether it’s a creek, river, or lake he’s happy to go for a swim. Not only has he been trail ridden, but Smarty also has participated in a local parade and grand entries for PRCA rodeos. Smarty has also been used outside for ranch chores such as helping gather and sort cattle as well helping start several horses and one pony mule. He’s lots of fun to ride outside and to work livestock on as he has a ton of natural cowsense which is no surprise after taking a look at his pedigree. All throughout Smarty’s pedigree, including his sire Sterling Snowman, are money earners and producers in the NCHA, NRCHA, ACHA, and AQHA just to name a few associations. If you’re a lineage nut like us, hop over to All Breed Pedigree and a quick search of Smarty’s dam and sire will also show his lineage going back to some of the most well known names in quarter horse history such as Doc Bar, Poco Bueno, Leo San, and more.
Smarty is great to be around on the ground and stands for grooming, fly spraying (both spray bottle & aerosol), bathing, blanketing, saddling, bridling, and for the farrier. He’ll stand at mounting blocks if you need assistance into the saddle and will also ride bareback just as easily as he does saddled. Want to show off to your friends? Take the bridle off and go do anything you want! Smarty is easy to catch out in the pasture, loads and unloads from a trailer like a champ, and hauls easily. He is UTD on all routine care from vaccinations to his teeth and has a recent vet exam on file which can be found on our website. He’s sound, clean legged, can go barefoot with no issues, requires no maintenance, and will x-ray clean all the way through. Whether you want to hit the show pen, hit the trails, or just want a horse that’s easy to ride everyday of the week he will fit your wants and needs!
You can find additional pictures on our website H Spur Horses and you can find Smarty's playlist with over an hour and a half of video by searching "Smart Snowman" on YouTube.
H Spur Performance & Versatility Horses
Welcome to the exciting debut of H Spur Performance & Versatility Horses at the 2024 Southern Belle Classic! Behind this new venture are the dynamic trio – Alex, Stetson, and Sarah Halverson. You might recognize a familiar face among them; Sarah, formerly of Rattan Performance Horses. Life has taken Sarah through significant changes this past year, from saying "I do" to anticipating a big move.... (read more) Now, she and Alex are thrilled to mark the Southern Belle Classic as the grand introduction of their family-owned business.
Sarah's history in the saddle dates back to before she could walk with early memories involving riding shotgun in a baby carrier while her father, Steve Rattan, rode through wheat pasture cattle. Her diverse background spans from rodeo events, cutting, and three-day eventing, with training under the tutelage of renowned mentors in each discipline.
On the other hand, Alex Halverson embarked on his riding journey later than Sarah, honing his fundamentals in the hunter-jumper arena before delving into the world of cutting and ranch horses, eventually managing them with expertise. Together, Sarah and Alex bring a wealth of experience to H Spur Performance & Versatility Horses, allowing them to truly grasp the essence of a well-rounded equine partner. With the newest addition to their family, little Stetson, safety is a top priority. The horses at H Spur aren't just trustworthy for seasoned riders; they are safe enough for Stetson to be around on the ground and even packed around in the saddle.
As Sarah often emphasizes, "H Spur Performance & Versatility Horses is committed to offering horses that we stand behind 110% in every way, both in the saddle and out." Their commitment extends to providing horses suitable for various needs, from ranch work to competing in the arena and leisurely trail rides. H Spur's philosophy is rooted in honesty – honest horses from honest people that are equipped with the skills, fundamentals, and experience to cater to your every equestrian desire. Join us in the saddle; experience the difference with H Spur Performance & Versatility Horses – where passion meets proficiency.
