Pete is an extremely good-minded, gentle ranch gelding. He has drug calves to the fire, roped yearlings, ponied tough colts, been ridden in all manner of rough gumbo big country, and tolerates the sights and sounds in the thick of town.... (read more) Pete handles new things very well. He is an extremely consistent and kind horse, with great trainability. Pete has the patience of a saint and exceptional sure-footedness in rough country. He has been a fantastic solo problem-cow catcher, a great gathering horse, is handy to get gates on, and is decent to sort off of in the corral for a big horse. I have really enjoyed my time with him. He is very fun to ride in the branding pen, and holds a calf on the Nordfork with confidence and ease. Pete has been the ultimate go-to gelding for all my ranch jobs for the last two years in all seasons. I have put beginner adult riders on him with supervision and guidance, and he takes care of them, even in rough country. An experienced rider could get on and do any job with him.
Pete was bred by Gene and Jan Hetletved out of Robinson, North Dakota, and is by their stallion Awesome Roany and out of a Lonsum Drift 045 mare. He goes back to Mr Pete Oswald, Drifts Chip, and High Rolling Roany. I have owned and started a handful of these Awesome Roany get and every one has been a specimen in their own right. These Hetletved horses have been honest, solid, and gentle big country ranch using horses.
Pete sells freeze-branded Lazy K M Over Bar on his left shoulder and fire-branded L Over Lazy H on his right hip. Catch him anywhere, he’s good to trim and shoe, and great to trailer. Pete is up to date on worming, vaccine, and trimming/shoeing. Pete is dominant in the herd. Vet checks welcome at buyer’s expense. Buyer responsible for shipping, and Coggins and Health paperwork if outside of the state of Montana.
