Additional Comments
Phillippe is a 6 year old 10.2hh shetland pony. He is a real character and gets on well with my group of older horses. Typically he is turned out with 3 senior horses- two geldings and a mare. He is very busy and gets everyone moving and exercising every day.
I bought him two years ago as a riding prospect for my daughter. He had already been ridden and is good about being groomed and tacked up. Unfortunately, my daughter is nervous about anything to do with the horses and has stopped her lessons in favor of gymnastics and dance (so much for my future riding buddy!... (read more) ). We only ever did leadline walking with him under saddle. Anyway, Phillippe has been sitting around for the better part of two years getting fresh. He has a lot of energy and really needs a job. I did a whole natural horsemanship program with him last year just to keep him going on the right track. We worked on leading politely, picking up hooves, exposing him to different stimuli, etc. It was the West Taylor method and is all about science based horsemanship. He did really well with it and I enjoyed doing the program with him. He now will stand for the farrier and vet and is good to lead around.
My other reason for selling is that my mom is moving to to my house this summer and is bringing her group of horses with her. This will fill up my barn and I have not one rideable horse for myself so I am looking to find my jobless pony a person that will give him some purpose (and I might be able to get a horse for myself).
Phillippe has good clean feet and is never lame. My current turnout situation is all fairly lush pasture and he has not foundered but I do worry for the future. The ideal home for him would probably have dry turnout to prevent foundering, but also space to run as he likes to get moving. He is a super easy keeper- he eats about 2 flakes of hay a day and 1/4 lb Triple Crown Balancer. He is up to date on his vaccines, farrier, and worming. He does trailer well too.
I would love to see Phillippe go to a driving home. He has not been started in driving work but is very bold, not afraid of anything, and would thrive with having something to do. He also would be a great companion to other horses. He is aggressive with small livestock (sheep and goats) and would not be suitable to turn out with anything other than horses. I am not marketing him as a children's riding pony because even though he hasn't been fresh with my kids, I do not totally trust him as he is still young and green and doesn't like small animals. He could be a project for an experienced horse person to turn into a kids' pony.
Finding Phillippe a great home is very important to me and I am not in a rush to sell. I will require vet references from potential buyers. Thanks for reading!
