Witten Creek Once In A Blue Moon..registered three year old Blue Roan Percheron Stallion. Blue is the first registered Percheron stallion in the United States (possibly the world) that is homozygous for roan. He is also homozygous for black. (Color tested by UC Davis) Blue will ALWAYS produce a black based true roan foal. What are black based colors?... (read more) Blue roan, Bay Roan, Buckskin roan or Grulla roan..depending on the genetics of the mare. In the United States currently there are a total of around eighty or so registered blue roan Percheron horses remaining, they are truly a rarity. His dam is here on the premises, we purchased her in foal with Blue, sight unseen, from Idaho.
One of the hottest things going in the horse market these days are draft cross horses..and blue roans are always a hot ticket item. Here is your chance to produce quality draft cross horses with size, bone and great dispositions. How about a six horse hitch of blue roan Percherons? Here’s how you get them!
Blue stands 17 hh at three years old. He covered one mare as a two year old, a full Friesian, and the resulting foal is just gorgeous!
I have rated Blue as a “4” in disposition, only because he is a three year old stallion. He is quiet, he loves attention, but he is still a young stallion, with occasional high spirits and a tendency to be lippy, despite repeated reprimands. He is easy to catch, even after being with a mare, and leads back in with no fuss. As a weanling, Blue was our go-to-guy for helping to teach the more reluctant foals to load. He was self loading on his third lesson, and barely slows up to this day.
Blue was lightly started under saddle last fall, and was started driving as well. He did very well for our trainer, but has not been ridden or driven since last October, we really have no facilities for either. Blue has only live covered, the nearest facilities to us for collection are over two hours away, which is just not an option for us, with foaling out our mares and caring for the farm.
As we are both approaching retirement age, we have decided that two stallions and our 18 mares are too much, so we are cutting back a bit. We also like to travel, and finding help to handle our herd while we are away is tough. It’s a lot and we have decided to slow down.
Blue was sired by Hacienda Hallelujah, and is out of a daughter of Maple Groves Gamblers Ace. He is fully registered and DNA verified with the Percheron Horse Association of America. He is microchipped and UTD on deworming, vaxx and farrier. He stands without stocks for the farrier and is easy to catch and handle. Ou vet will be here early June, and I will get his coggins then, and could get his health certificate if he is purchased by then. Blue is PSSM1 negative. (Also by UC Davis)
Blue does have a scar on the right hind, but he is completely sound in all ways. He has covered two mares for us this spring so far, and is still figuring out the whole “aim” concept, but getting better with each attempt.
Blue is for sale…not “on sale”. We do not “have” to sell him. Serious inquiries are invited for this once in a lifetime chance to own a very rare commodity that will pay for itself many times over in the years to come.

Witten Creek Farm
Raising quality Friesian cross horses. Our brood mares are selected for not only their conformation and bloodlines, but their attitudes as well. All are quiet, gentle and a pleasure to be around. All of the Friesian cross mares have been DNA parentage verified, and all of our babies will be Friesian Heritage Horse registered and DNA verified, as well as micro-chipped. You can be certain when you get one of our babies, that it has already been tested and verified.... (read more) We strive to produce calm, quiet and loving foals, that will be a true pleasure to work with. Daily handling and exposure to a variety of items help them get started right. We try to have each baby not only halter broke, standing for farrier, and loading in a trailer, wearing a pad and surcingle, as well as crossing cavelliti, crossing a tarp, and standing on and crossing a pedestal, We try to teach them to think about things and to trust their human partners.
Our stallion, Vorn MFF is a son of Doaitsen 420, the USEF Friesian sire of the year for 2016, 2017, and 2018. Vorn's mother is a crown mare by Beart 411, the two time driving champion of the Netherlands. Vorn rides and drives. Vorn is also hydro and dwarfism free and five panel negative.. His first foals are on the ground and exceeding all expectations. We have sold babies from coast to coast. Vorn’s get are all very people oriented, athletic and very intelligent. They are easy to work with, and for the most part, very quiet natured.
