Tex is a project I've had for about a month, so I'll be as honest as much as I know. I'm keeping him separated because my mares absolutely do not like him and the poor thing won't fight back. 12 years old, 14.2 hands. I've probably put a handful rides on him so far. When I first got him he was very barn/buddy sour in an arena, keeping all four feet on the ground but strongly wanting to turn around and go back, sometimes refusing to walk forwards and would just back up.... (read more) Within about 15 minutes I had him walking and trotting pretty nice without fighting me, just hugging the fence to the arena when we passed that side. He tried me once with the same on our second ride and gave up. He neck reins pretty decent, and responds to leg pressure. I have been working with him to disengage his shoulders and hips and he's picking it up pretty quick. A little stiff bending his rib cage going to the right, but getting better. Walk/trot/canter/stop as you ask. He's very easy going, easy to catch, and easy to be around. Not a deadhead, but seems to respond well to things that might startle him. VERY low heirachy, my yearling who is also on the bottom pushes him around. As of Feb 1st he's UTD on vaccinations, coggins, and had his teeth floated. They weren't bad, nothing abnormal just regular maintenance per the vet. Good feet and healthy overall. I've been trying to put a little more weight on him and he's gaining appropriately. He's a cute little gelding and would make a good family horse / husband horse / possibly a kids horse but I don't have kids to try with him, I have been told he toted his around the round pen no problem and I would believe it. I'm continuing to ride and work with him until he finds a home.
