Amarillo is a flashy red and white paint gelding. Standing a true 16.0 hands and just 9 years old. This horse came out of Texas where he was working the stockyards. He has a true two finger neck rein, stops on a dime and will backup a mile if you ask him. Turns on his haunches and moves off leg with ease. He will ground tie anywhere and will not move a muscle. I think he’s part statue sometimes. This horse had been a western horse his entire life.... (read more) When we got him here we threw English tack on him and he rode right off. No lunging, no warming up etc. Amarillo is a beautiful mover and frames up automatically. This horse will definitely make it in the English horse world. He could go the dressage direction, learn to jump or just be someone’s English pleasure mount. I don’t think many people would know that he hadn’t been an English horse if I didn’t say anything. He’ll ride around the arena like he’s been doing it his whole life. Walks, trots, canters and knows his leads. He is a consistent ride and is fine if he’s ridden daily or every two weeks. Every time you tack him up and throw your leg over he will ride off the same way. Amarillo is a bombproof trail horse. This horse has seen it and done it. Not buddy or barn sour at all. Rides out alone or with other horses. Completely road and traffic safe. We really haven’t found anything that phases him. These horses that have worked extensively in the stockyards are pretty bullet proof. He has some of the best ground manners you could put on a horse, 100% sound, nice big feet, clean legged and no vices what so ever. He is not spooky, snorty or standoffish at all. This horse likes people and likes attention. You can catch him anywhere and he has excellent stall and barn manners. Safe for any level rider but broke enough for a more experienced rider to also enjoy and have fun with. The perfect all around family type horse to. Amarillo cross ties, clips, bathes, trailers, ground ties, stands to be saddled and is easy to bridle. This gelding also stands like a statue at the mounting block for mounting and dismounting. He will not walk off until you ask ever. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a true western broke ranch gelding that is this versatile in English tack to and has such a good brain and personality.
