Additional Comments
Although she is still young, the pedigree behind Elska is quite promising. As is visible through her colorful markings, she was sired by Strokkur frà Syðri-Gegnishólum. Strokkur earned first prize as a 5 year old with a high of 8.36 overall. Highlights from his assessment include an 8.5 for tölt, 8.5 for gallop and an incredible 9 for pace and spirit. He was praised for the speed and clear beat he carried in tölt. Strokkur is a direct son of Honor Prize stallion, Orri frá Þúfu í Landeyjum.... Her dam, Kveðja frá Stekkjardal is an equally exciting first-prized mare. She received a 9 for tölt in her evaluations with comments to her speed, clear beat and high action. She also received 9 for spirit, and 8.5 for gallop, trot, walk, and general impression. Kveðja was praised for her high action and speed across multiple gaits. This mare’s grandsire is the notable Honor Prize stallion, Hrafn frá Holtsmula. Hrafn’s first prized breeding assessment included an 8.5 for pace and a 9 for tölt and trot.
Elska herself has a big presence with roomy, open movements. Her education thus far has been with Taktur. This has included basic groundwork, starting under saddle, light riding, work with a bridle, and ponying. She has an eager personality and will do well with regular work. The beautiful part of investing in a youngster is getting to be a part of their journey through the earliest learning stages. It’s extremely rewarding to watch them develop into confident, successful riding horses. We are so excited to see where this mare’s journey will go!
Considerations:
It should be noted that Elska is very much a youngster, only lightly started under saddle. Though the education she has received thus far has been a solid one, she still has quite a bit to learn. Due to this, the future owner should be aware that further training under saddle will be required. Knowledge and experience of young horse starting and/or the use of a professional trainer is recommended.
