“Popeye” is a picture perfect 6 year old haflinger gelding standing 13.2 hands high. He catches eyes and turns heads no matter where you take him. Popeye is okay with chickens, dogs and cats, goats and cattle. He is happy to be outside 24/7 or will also gladly come in the barn without making a peep. Under saddle, This boy stands to be mounted and dismounted. He has three comfortable gaits followed by an easy stop. Popeye responds to both leg and seat cues but needs finishing.... (read more) This boy is more confident on the trails as that’s where he has on more time, although he is green he has a nice foundation in the arena and always gives his rider his all. While he is not yet suited for a beginner rider at the moment, he has the potential, he just needs finishing by someone with experience. He is sharp as a whip and catches on to new things quickly and retains what he learns.
On the trail, Popeye will take the lead and show all of the others how it’s done or he’s happy to ride in the middle of the group or even fall behind the group, he’s in no rush. Popeye watches every step he takes and is always very aware of where his feet are at, he will quietly take you up and down steep hills, through mud, over roots and rocky terrain, through streams, and over bridges. We often trailer out to parks where there are lots of kids with kites, bicyclists, boaters, kayaks and more. He usually rides in a snaffle but we have hacked out in a hackamore plenty of times!
