"Quartermaster" 16.2h huge bodied 2017 TB Gelding sired by More than Ready out of a Medaglia d'Oro mare. Quartermaster had a respectable career at racing before retiring. I looked at this guy while at the track on a bitter cold, raining day. He calmly walked out of the barn and jogged out for me to see, within a few steps I knew he had to come here. Quartermaster is a big, quiet, sensible dude that just checks a lot of boxes. He is barefoot, with great feet.... (read more) Quartermaster is easy as could be in the barn, respectful on the lead, ties, bathes, good for grooming/tacking etc. he's got a goofy personality and can often be found licking the wall, "smiling" or sticking his tounge out. If weirdo is your style, you'll find this guy super entertaining! He hauled down to FL, settled in right away and started learning a second career. He's been turned out at night with another gelding, quiet in the field and low man on the totem pole. Under saddle he stood quietly at the mounting block, walked off on a loose rein and rode very well. We walk, trot, cantered and lightly started him over fences. He's got a "I can try" attitude and trotted down to nearly everything in my arena. By the end of the ride he was putting together little lines and cantering in/out quietly. He is a little bit of a push ride, respectful of a stick and has a soft mouth. We had a little bit too much bit in for him the first go, he just got a hair fussy but will switch him to a softer snaffle next time. Regardless, he still tried very hard, went around quietly / softly and did everything we asked. Quartermaster is a great first restart or ammy prospect, he had no buck/rear etc. This guy was super fancy at liberty and I believe would make a great amateur prospect for dressage, low eventing or perhaps hunters. I don't think he has super competitive upper level ambitions, however he is the perfect amateurs mount to go out and knock it out of the park at the smaller stuff! Our rider reports he's like riding a sofa, very comfortable. Quartermaster has no known injuries or vices. RRP eligible.
